im using xp home/mandrake linux (on external harddrive) anyway how do you sighnup to be a beta tester for vista; can you just sighnup or do you have to be an msdn member?

Windows XP Pro. Need a HD to install vista (legal dvd + serial) too cheap to buy one. I have tried Fedora Core 2 Linux but linux isnt my flavor.

Nope the only way to get it free is to download an illegal copy which has a 30 day trial period. From my experience it crashed every 30 mins to the second and didn't support my sound card. I got fed up with it after 3 hours and went back to XP pro. However I loved the new IE7 and got an illegal copy of that to run on my illegal copy of XP pro. I refuse to buy Windows or any software like that. If they brought out a decent version that wasn't full of bugs and holes to be exploited then i might consider getting my parents to buy a copy. I still wouldn't buy it myself. In fact why buy any software?

Free software Swaps:
Norton Antivirus - AVG antivirus
Norton Firewall - ZoneAlarm
Norton Antispyware - Any other free one (I use Spybot or Microsoft AntiSpyware)
Microsoft Office - Sun Open Office
Windows (any version) - Linux (Open Source there are free versions)

Blah blah blah the list goes on. For any premium software there is an equally good and much, much cheaper or even free variation. I know a lot of people don't like linux but give it time and you can love it. And people may say about the new Genuine Windows thingy stopping updates and other MS downloads but there are loop holes in that. So even that couldn't be kept safe. I won't tell you the loop holes as they are illegal. In fact I won't tell anyone how to obtain anything illegal as you can do the hard work finding it yourselves like I did.

The only legal (not free) software on my computer is the games although I still get these at 50% RRP.

Wow thats an old computer. But in actual fact for a laptop aint too bad. I'm lookin at getting a laptop and for my price range thats about the best I can get. My PC is by no means top notch but it holds its own apart from the CPU.

AMD Athlon XP2600+ (only runs at 1.9GHz)

Coming soon is a whole new mobo and CPU. I'm gonna be getting a new motherboard that will support the whole new technology, PCI-Express, DDR2, SATA-Raid, 64Bit AMD CPU. So look out on UK ebay for my CPU, mobo, RAM, graphics card etc I may even sell them all as a package. I'm keeping the Hard drives, DVD burner and speakers though. Then again I may keep it as it is and buy a laptop.
