I think this only works with Windows, but it might work for others too. Put the install disk for the OS in your CD drive and re-boot the computer. It should start up with the option to 'Boot from disk'. Highlight that and press enter. That should take you into some menus where you can eventually get to the option that will let you format the HD. It will probrably take a few hours to format depending on the size of the HD, but when it's done just re-boot again, but instead of formating, install the OS (From the same menu). I think that should do it, I haven't done a clean install for a while but I hope that helps :icon_smil.

The Ubuntu installer needs at least 64 mbytes of RAM (memory) to work properly.

You clearly have another computer (or you wouldn't be posting here) so go to software.com or do a google search for a "boot disk." Make a floppy boot disk and put it in and reboot the PC. This should get you to a DOS prompt. From there, type in:

format c: /s

That will format the HDD and put system files on it to make it bootable. From there, remove the floppy and reboot your PC. When it comes back up, you'll have a formatted, bootable HDD. Then you can install linux or whatever else you want.

A boot floppy fits on one floppy disk. We used to use it back in the day when CDs weren't bootable. It has a watered down version of DOS on it, plus enough utilities to get an OS installed, like format, fdisk, etc.

Most Windows OSs have an option somewhere to "create boot floppy" as well. However, I haven't needed to make one in a while, so I'm not sure where that option is anymore.
