Hello everyone, Lately while using my laptop it seems to just turn the screen black. I can slightly see what is in the screen but not enought to make it out. When it does that, I just turn it off by hand and turn the power back on. When turned back on it goes straight to a black srcreen as if it is turned off. I have a Dell inspiron 4100. Any clues please let me know.

I had that problem with my compaq. I sent in my laptop for repair and after 3 return trips and phone calls I finally convinced them it was a overheating issue. They replaced some of the wires and it has worked ever since. I dont rember excatly what was replaced but the first 2 times they just replaced the fans I believe.

Does anyone think this black screen have to do anything with a virus. My virus scan has been killing a trojan lately and it still keeps coming back. It says it is in the system32: Winrootkit or somthing. Any ideas?

No it probably has nothing to do about a virus unless you can control your backlight in windows. Also the problem has to do with the backlight which is probably going bad or you have a loose conection to the backlight. I once drop my ancient ibm 600e and it shatter the backlight and had same symtoms.
