my torrents download EXTERMLY slow, like 2-5 kb/s and i have dsl, i have tried all the tricks and what not with my router and such and nothing has helped

There is no "usually" for a torrent download. It all depends on the number of Seeders (people with the entire file who are only uploading) vs. the number of Leechers (people with parts of the file who are downloading and uploading).

You can look to get anywhere from 1kb/s on up.

yeah most of take awhile, leave it to download and go play some b ball....best thing to do is to leave it along

xodiac21 is correct, it starts off slow but can get really fast after an hour, so fast that it basically uses up all your bandwidth. but that all depends on the number of seeds (people who are sharign the full file) too. the more popular a file is, the more seeds there are.

if its an active torrent they go rapidly, much faster than stuff like limewire and edonkey

This can also depend on whether you (and in some cases your ISP) are running a firewall and have the necessary BT ports opened (TCP 6881-6999). Your torrent software will usually indicate your connection status with red, yellow & reen indicator lights, consult your software's help for information regarding this.

I'm downloading 3 DOA4 video's right now, they're DLing at 15-25kbps on average. Which is about the best you can expect.

Well I'm downloading something at around 200kbps. It's just a matter of how healthy the torrent is. This one has 34 Seeds and 7 Peers.

I'm downloading FarCry, because I lost the disks, and want to finish the game.

It alternates constantly.

Last night it was up to 175 KB/s, now it's down to like 4. So, it depends.

Speeds in a torrent depend on many factors:

1. Are your ports open to transfer (6881-6889) i.e. config router/firewall
2. how much bandwidth are you uploading because usually the more you share the more you download
3. There has to be a sufficient amount of seeders because just leechers only have parts of the torrent therefore you'll never finish

I have downloaded 4 gigs in one day. It was going at like 20KB/S before I went to bed, when i was sleeping it was downloading at 5kb/s to 10kb/s and then in the morning 300kb/s and it finished two hours later. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't

Most isp's actively scan and restrict the ports that torrents use, I use stock bittorrent, but with a self-coded script that changes:

the port(s) bittorrent uses
the port(s) my router fowards...

Unless its a slow torrent, I never go below 20kb/s, my best is 800kb/s

azerus destroyed my computer. it was running super fast then while i was transferring a game it just froze. now it is having trouble loading windows.
can some one help? it is a compaq presario 5000 with windows me.
