Has anyone ever been put in the awkward position to where you feel like you just HAVE to say ".... yeah, sure, I'll fix it"?
Well my landlady backed me into that corner, unfortunately I was not wearing my "No, I will no fix your computer" T-shirt.
Anyways, it was LOADED with spyware, and after 6 hours I have finally gotten it to come up clean on Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Norton scans (all definitions updated). I have installed SP2 and all the latest security patches from microsoft.
The computer runs fast now, yet whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, it instantly crashes. The weird thing is that if i open Windows Explorer (not IE), and type a site address in the address bar, it works fine.
I am thinking that somehow the spyware integrated with IE so much that removing it has damaged some critical IE file(s). Now here's the catch, I don't have an XP cd laying around. I've tried to google this problem but have found no solution - can anyone offer some help? It would be much appreciated!
