Default My PC is Broken.. Help Please!

Hey!

Since I installed Norton Antivirus my Computer crashes every time I turn it on. It can load up linux but ive forgotten my password so thats useless. Anyway I have got 2 hard drives installed (a 7GB one and a 80GB one).

My plan is to install windows onto the 7GB HDD which currently is occupied by linux, then either copy all my files which I need from the 80GB HDD onto DVD-R's or onto the 7GB HDD. I would then be able to either format the 80GB one and install windows back onto it, or format it and keep all my data on it whilst running windows on the seperate HDD.

Do you think this would be possible?

If so, could you provide me with some simple instructions to follow.

Thanks alot in advance!

First of all don't use Norton, use something like AVG antivirus. Secondly if you do that you'll have to change the 7GB HDD to be the master drive so that it boots up automatically, unless you have ATA or SATA drives. I think that's what you need to do anyway, can someone please verify it. BTW to change a drive to master you need to open up your PC and there's a small two or three pin wire, it'll be in your master HDD, you just need to unplug the end that's in your HDD and put it in the other one.

EDIT: Can you boot up your computer to Windows and keep hitting F8 and a list will apear, then select safe mode from the list. It will then boot in safe mode, only the mostvital processes run in safe mode, so Norton wont be running, justsimply go to the control panel, add or remove programs and remove Norton. Or you could do a system restore and restore it to before you installed Norton. Try this way before you try the switching the master drive bit.

Switch to Mac OS X. Same benefits as Linux, less worry about using AV software.

That's not always the best option, although I agree that Mac OS X is a very good OS

Not a problem guys, I backed up my important files to my 30GB iPod and formatted. XP is now running EVEN FASTER!

P.S Do you think it's worth installing Vista onto the 7GB HDD?
