Sounds like you got hit with a virus or your drive is wigging out on you.
Toss the original XP install CD in the drive, and boot into repair mode. Then just copy the explorer.exe over to the drive. Or boot up any one of a ton of "recovery CDs" you can make from free resources on the net.

Then run down to an Apple store and buy a computer that won't give you as many headaches.

Explorer.exe is your file options, clock, and toolbar. Once I stopped that in processes and the toolbar and my icons all went off screen. The only thing there was my wallpaper. Try resetting your computer 3 times (that's how many it took me) and see what happens.

To be more percise: Get a new iMac G5 or a Macbook Pro :P

You could attempt to run XP in safe mode and then reboot in normal mode. Explorer.exe is a background process that starts on startup of course :P I don't think there is a single replacement file for it

There is on an XP install CD booted into recovery mode.

It's under C:\WINDOWS and includes an explorer check and explorer.exe.

Ok, windows XP has never been that user friendly for problem fixing.. what do you mean by recovery mode? (safe mode? ). I don't even know if I have my installation CD for XP anymore :O

Michael, I do not believe that is the correct file. THe explorer I can upload right now is called: Explorer.scf is that the right file?

I don't even have Explorer.scf on my computer and it runs like a charm. What OS are you using?

Why should I :P If you just told me that in the first place I would've, I didn't have a chance to read it all and didn't even know that that option was actually useful :P (almost like the repair internet connection..rarely needed).

Well, thanks for clearing that up, but you never stated in your post that the link was talking about recover "mode", just recovery CD resources

@Michale WXPSP2

It is named explorer, but when I tried to upload it, it showed it as explorer.scf :P

Ah..just looked again and on the next line was the next explorer file which was explorer.exe :P
