Ah..on some notebooks there is a button right above the touchpad to turn it off, but I guess yours does not have this.

Your best bet would to go to your Control Panel-->Mouse and fiddle around in there for a little while Seeing as I do not own a laptop that is all the help I can provide.

Open up the laptop and disconnect the touchpad from the motherboard.
BAM! Sorted!

Why do you need to turn it off? There's no reason. You can still use a mouse while it's on.

There is no point in turning it off, unless its annoying when typing and your mose moves. If you have a Toshiba, then there is a program that launches in the Icon Tray to turn it off, but otherwise look through your Control Panel in "Classic View" to see touchpad cinfigurations (I'm just guessing as I only used my sister's laptop for a couple days)

I need to turn it off because when i hit a button on my keyboard, it doesn't register that i pressed that button, so it doesn't type. So now, i am using a keyboard plugged in to my laptop, and i have it resting on top of the laptop's keyboard, but it also touches the touchpad, so occasionally it'll do something annoying.

Yeh it is. It is 3 years old and here is what's wrong with it:
128 mb ram
27 gb hardrive
Broken disk drive
Broken keyboard
They won't fix that stuff even though we have a warranty
When some other thing broke a year ago, we sent it in to be fixed, and they sent it back without an operating system
It has completely crashed 3 time.
The hardrive is currently crashed (im using a backup one)
And the touch pad doesn't work right.

It's a dell inspiron by the way.

You should take action against them for not repairing it when you have a valid warranty. Thanks to my HE teacher I know that you can. Although they wont listen to you unless you know what you're doing. Maybe write them an e-mail including the sale and supply of goods act 1994 (revised 2002). This states that goods 1. Must be of satisfactory quality 2. Must be fit for the purpose that was made known to the consumer 3. As described. For more info. see here

We already are going to. We're going to fill out a letter to the attorney general and then copy it and send it to dell. Hopefully that'll get them to replace my computer.
But until then, i just want to simply know how to do this.
