Ok. I wanted to know if i could put the mac OS on my hp notebook dv1000 as wellas keeping my windows xp. I've heard of partitioning my hard drive but im not sure if thats a good idea. I mean, what does it do? make the opposite partition hidden Like if i was running xp would it make the mac partition invisible, untouchable and uneditable? I just want the mac os as well as xp. Is it possible? If so how does it work (booting wise)? Do i need to mod my laptop in anyway? Does it make either OS work slower? Do i need any special software? I dont want to edit any system files or do something irreversable! And finally can i take off the mac OS and partition at any time if i decide i dont want it? And would the mouse make a difference (left+right click insted of one click). Any good links, info, noob tutorials, expierences of doing this etc. would be very highly apreciated! Thanks so much if anyone replies!

It might make it slower. This depends on how large and how fast your hard disk is. You'll definately be able to delete the partition. Making a partition won't screw anything up. Everthing should be completely reversible. Try searching Google for a tutorial on this. I haven't gotten around to doing it myself.

I would assume that if you used the Intel optimized version of OSX, it would work better. |

...it allows you to have multiple filesystems...like fat32 and ntfs on seperate partitions..mac uses hfs, linux supports multiple, including ext2,ext3,reiserfs,etc... linux can view most of those filesystems, so if you install linux, you can see the windows partitions..windows on the other hand, doesnt allow you to view linux filesystems..theres a 3rd party app to do that though... to partition, use something like partition magic partitioning doesnt slow down anything...it only divides available free space the way you want. you can take off any os by simply deleting that partition. no modding involved.. if you install linux, you will get a menu where you can select which os to boot... but backup your data before trying to partition..there could be data loss. my recommendation would be to try out linux first, using a live cd like ubuntu. if you like it, you can install it... search ubuntu on google Quote:

Sucks... Works perfectly with mine. Having problems with printing on a Network printer, but everything is running smoothly so far.

A few questions: Is it possible to make a partition without a clean install/reformat of windows? And how do you boot into Mac from the PC (selection on startup of PC?). I'm thinking about giving it a try anyways, always have wanted a Mac (dad's friend has one and loves it!) and I've fallen in love with an Apple since the old days ![]() Although, I got like the worst luck at all (incompatible hardware-)
-WiFi: Broadcom 802.11b/g mini-PCI (has hardware switch that does not work in OSX to turn on/off) -Sound: Conexant AMC Audio. May work with AC97 driver, but have not tested. |

According to their site, my Graphics card, and processor aren't compatable. Works just fine though. You're just gonna have to try it.

No, it has to be a full OS (about 4 GB) called "OSX86". OSX86 is a patched version of OSX that allows it to run on a x86 PC.
