Download Windows Media Player v11.0.5358.4826 XP Public Preview Beta

Microsoft have planned a Public Preview Beta of WMP 11 for XP on May 17.

Final RTM release scheduled for June.

New features include:
- New interface
- Better support for syncing with portable devices
- Indexed libraries
- Search-as-you-type
- Controlled downgrade of quality for DRM contents
- Will link to Microsoft and MTV's Urge music stores

There are additional features slated for WMP 11 for Vista:
- Playing all content (including DRM content) on one PC from another
- Shell integration
- DVD full-screen playback enhancements
- DRM transcode
- High-quality video streaming over a home network

Thought some people might enjoy getting this a little early. Enjoy!

The interface is really pretty and nice hope everyone likes it.

This thing PWNS, it gives album images for everything, it's so sleek, and it has that cool thing on the bottom left witht he reflection(i love that for some reason)

WMP is a bloated piece of crap and this is no different. Let's go over all the problems shall we?

New features include:
- New interface - Great, I can't customize my own
- Better support for syncing with portable devices - Can it support multiple devices and convert media formats at the same time?
- Indexed libraries - What? Doesn't this mean loading up huge playlists will be even SLOWER?
- Search-as-you-type With your terrible interface this is a Godsend
- Controlled downgrade of quality for DRM contents - Yay more DRM to screw us over
- Will link to Microsoft and MTV's Urge music stores - bloated piece of crap

- Shell integration - Can't complain, as long as I can minimize it as a normal program

- High-quality video streaming over a home network - You mean like VLC player?

I've installed this and it seems slow and bloated.
If you want something that plays music decently, get Foobar2000.
If you want a good media player, get Media Player Classic or VLC player.

Digital Rights Management.

Basically a bunch of bull**** to stop you from using music you paid for in the way you want. It restricts the amount of times you can copy something for example iTunes music can only be played on a certain number of devices, eBooks can only be read on a set number of notebooks.

I still like winamp for music and vlc for videos. The only thing i like WMP for is that VLC will have some messed up images when you fastforword and it cant play the halo 3 trailer right.

wow sounds gay to me. im sure someone will find a way around it if it hasnt already been done.

in fact wouldnt opening the file in an audio editor then resaving as your own file bypass it.

Meh, I just like the look. I never actually use WMP11, now I think it's bearable with the new look. The features seem exactly the same, just updated a bit, with the Urge music store being a tab. Overall, it's pretty much WMP10 with a very nice skin.

i use mp10 daily for watching all the lovely american series that we dont get here for 6 months so i have to download them.

is 11 stable? i might change to it if it is. and does divx and xvid work with it?

I saw it on his desktop pic before, it looks just like the WMP11 Play button, blue witht he white triangle and all shiny.
