Hi well i got my laptop back after it having several problems.....

but anyways whenever i put a cd/dvd or anything in the dvd drive it doesn't show up under my computer. now if i stick in a dvd movie then open up VCL player then i can watch the movie.

but i have some data dvds that i need.

i look at the driver and it is up to date....

i had a new motherboard installed which was bought off ebay. it works great excpet for the dvd thing, unable to enter standby, and a weird screen scrolling issue.

It's either a driver or DVD-drive firmware issue. Try some different drivers but make sure you have the latest firmware flashed to the drive....try the latest DVD drivers as well, directly from the drive manufacturer, not the laptop maker.

p.s. Buy a Mac and never worry about it again

Please, you didnt have to include that last part did you?

Seriously, you are suggesting to everyone that has a PC or a windows laptop to drop it, run to the store, and buy a mac. Just answer the question.

I answered the question and you've contributed NOTHING to this thread, which is par for the course with the majority of the posts you create.
Another possible explanation could be that some sort of DRM is affecting the drivers.

ya i have no clue what that means...

and i have the latest ATI Radeon mobile driver for my display driver, but whenever i activate it it causes major problems. the backlight flickers on and off, then eventually turns off. the screen is still on becuase u can slightly see the stuff on the screen but the light is off...

Havce you tried reinstalling the actual driver, or just updating it?

Check if you have Starforce. It's a DRM protection thing that effectively 'breaks' your CD/DVD Drive. If you do have it, use this guide to get rid of it.
