I dont think they'll both flop. One will flop for sure, but i think it will take a while for one of them to take off.

I think they'll both flop, because there's no reason to jump from DVD to either format. A slightly better picture is not a worthy reason for the average consumer to make that jump.

Not right now but who knows in 5 years the price a Blu Ray or HD DVD drive might be cheep enough to make it a idea to include it internal. Plus by then a LOT more people will have a HD TV since the prices will come down. Or possibly holorgraphics disc might be the future. What is clear is that sometime in the future(near future) DVD will be replaced by some other format.

I actually bought an HD-DVD player and some movies for it (GoodFellas, Serenity, and Apollo 13. I won't be using it much, honestly.

We've had little booklets up by our registers about both HD-DVD and Blu Ray for a few weeks and I don't think anyone has taken one yet, or even asked what either of them is. I don't see either of them getting popular anytime soon.

Like the VHS vs Beta. Quality wise, do still think Beta wins, but after the war, which one lived longer? (Well VHS is half-way dead by now)

But what is Better? Is it Capacity? Is it Cost? Is it Availability?

Neither Format will become more popular then DVD anytime soon. But which ever format can get more Studios to publish movies on it and is cheeper will win.

I think that if HD-DVD and Blu-Ray came out 3 years from now then we could be able to decide because there would be more HD Setups. And Dee....The Porn Industry is looking to use Blu-Ray.

Sorry, don't mean to bite on this, but, Beta "does" have porn. Although during it's early launch, Sony didn't license Beta to the Porn Market, but thats just only the early launch time. Can find them since 1975. So, Beta not having porn isn't much true. (Although some countries had it unlicensed all the way.) Personally, probably if I go back home (as in where my parents are), I can find some in the closet. (^^;

One other thing VHS beat Beta was the tape cost. Low cost means truely cheaper running fee. For prosumers, cost doesn't really do much, if they want it, they'll use it no matter what. The majority is just consumers, and they'll go for a cheaper better idea. (Same as the PS3, minority will buy no matter what, but the majority has the cost issue to be somewhat solved to go on.)

Well, its just a summary of, Sony doesn't listen to the majority, same situation from Beta.

It's like they don't hear us. Noones ready for the jump as DFS said. Hell we just spent 10 years building up dvd collections, I'm not jumping to a 'prettier' dvd just yet.

Whichever one is adopted the most by movie studios wins. However, whichever one has more shelf space at WAL-MART will ultimately decide the format.
After all, WAL-MART really pushed DVD back in the early DVD days, and they are a significant contributor to its success.
But remember all that talk of "quality"?
Who gives a damn when it's near impossible to see with the naked eye.
And HD-DVD players can play regular DVDs. Blu-Ray drives cannot unless the manufacturer throws it in...which makes it more expensive.
Sony says that the PS3 will also be able to play DVDs, but I don't trust them anymore where the PS3 is concerned.
