Default I dont get it... I just... dont get it!

Why must Windows constantly be a problem. Im not an idiot, I dont download things unless I know what and where they are. No emails and none of that idiotism involved with getting problems. No one else who uses this computer even has the brain capacity to play solitare correctly, maybe AOL but thats about all. AVG, Spybot, Adaware, Bazooka, and Abexo run virtually ever damn day and yet every damn day something is wrong. Between blue screens and stoppages, hold ups and freezes, and just the computer being all around slow because the system idle process likes to use 97% of my CPU while im using 3 different applications.

Is my only solution a full reformat? I really dont have the money to take it into a shop and have it reformated, and dont have the knowledge to do it on my own.

This is the part where iball will come and say 'MAC'
and use his big words against microsoft (But i don't blame him).
The Best antivirus program i have is "Panda Antivirus",
along with the stupid name it will do its job, and do it with
pride! Sorry i don't usually use freeware as its unstable
and there is no tech support etc..

You could partition your harddrive into 2,
well thats what i did with my old PC and it worked fine..
(but you'll need alittle more experience with what your doing etc..)

Not much better, but at least its not a dell.
Tell you the truth, I say reformat. Trying to fix the entire windows installation is truly a pain in the ass. Get a mac (I did the iball thing )

I was planning on it. Windows is too much of a hassle and makes me want to kill myself.

I have the windows reinstallation CD. Is there no easy way to do it?

make a boot disk with a floppy before doing anything, its absolutely necessary.
just insert that before booting the computer, and have your windows disc in the drive. Setup it up from dos and there ya go.

Itd be cheaper to just get it professionally reformatted...

Sorry had to laugh at the system idle thing. System idle means just that. YOUR PROCESSOR IS IDLE, IE not doing anything.

I knew I was going to have to explain. It was an inherited car. My mother moved across country and wanted to buy a new car in the process so she basically gave her crappy old car to me. SO im going to just get some quick cash from a lot for it. Its noithing special, an old wagon

If my system idle process is not doing anything why is it taking up all of my speed when I am trying to run processes? It seems kind of contradictory

What are the chances that a Dell Windows XP reinstallation CD will work properly for an HP?

It means that if your SIP says 90% that 90% of your processor is free for other tasks. That is not slowing ANYTHING down. not every program is going to have cpu cycles being used.

Ah, then something else is causing the speed problem... None of the processes seem to be taking up any ram or cpu yet the harddrive is running as if 20 programs are starting at once...

Have you tried a defrag on your hdd? fragmentation is frequently overlooked.

I do it all the time. Everything that can possibly be done short of hitting it with a sledge hammer has been done. Its either come to its time of putting it to rest or a reformat is neccessary. Problem is I need a way to do it mself with a reinstallation disk from a different model computer...

Something can be overheating. But it's probably a software problem if it's a laptop.

Desktop. At any rate, thats not my concern anymore.

Does anyone know if a Dell reinstallation CD with the joining serial number will sucessfully install windows on a HP?

Give it a try, but Dell is probably big enough *******s where they would actually only include drivers for that specific computer it came with.

CD says it doesnt include drivers and programs, which is good because what the hell good is dell drivers on a HP system anyway? It looks like just the OS. Thing is im worried when I delete the partition and go to reinstall it wont work and then ill be sh*t out of luck...

Unless a create a new partition, reinstall on that one - if it works sucessfully then I delete the old one?
