Here are a few guides to speed up your windows XP.
Cutting your boot time. 1. First you need to defrag your drive 2. Do a full spyware scan to make sure no unwanted programs are starting up 3. Clean your start up folder by going to Start>All Programs>Startup (you can delete everything in this folder, there is no system startup programs so nuke it) 4. Click start>Run and type msconfig click the startup tab and scroll through and uncheck any unwanted startup programs (this is what usually saves the most time) 5. Before exiting msconfig go to the services tab and uncheck any unwanted services (PLEASE NOTE IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE SERVICE DOES DO NOT UNCHECK IT) 6. Wait don't exit msconfig yet go to BOOT.INI tab and click /NOGUIBOOT (Disables the windows boot screen) 7. Ok now go to start>Run again and type services.msc and you will see a list of services any of the ones you don't want right click them and click properties then there will be something that says automatic with a drop down button click it and switch it to manual. 8. When your computers starting up enter the bios menus and turn fast boot on 9. Go to Start>Run and type regedit then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParame ters then double click on the EnablePrefetcher and type 3 10. Also Microsuck once made a utility called Bootvis that makes windows boot even faster but they publicly disowned it right after its release microsuck Swears it will not help your boot time.(bootvis can be found using Google) Speeding up your computer. 1. Click the "start" button. 2. Right click on "My Computer". 3. Click on "Properties". 4. Click the "Advanced" tab 5. Under the performance area click settings. 6. Disable all the boxes except the last 3. (You will notice ANY difference to anything graphical and it speeds up the computer) Getting rid of the thumbs.db 1. Open any folder 2. Click "Tools" 3. Click on "Folder Options" 4. Click the "View" tab. 5. Click the "Do not cache thumbnails" box. 6. Apply and close the window. 7. Open Search and type in "thumbs.db" 8. Delete everything that comes up. Also I recommend a program called XP Smoker It speeds up your boot time and performs various registry tweaks. I will update this from time to time with more tweaks. Please tell me if you found this helpful.

Well I reccomend Systerax XPtools or Tweaknow Powerpack 2006. both those programs do exactly what you laid out instructions for, in no time. but otherwise, good tutorial/guide
