Default HELP with Service Pack 2 On My Sony Vaio

Hello
I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RS322E
It has NOW Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 1.
The PC was bought in 2003
When Service pack 2 came out I installed it but I think my computer either couldnt handle it or I got a corrupted version so I used the recovery disk.

Today I updated it again because my PC keeps saying: 'After October 10, 2006, Windows XP Service Pack 1 will transition to a non-supported status. Upgrade to Windows XP SP2 now for continued security updates and incident support.' When I updated it my pc switches on but after the logo etc SONY, Intel inside and everything it then just restarts and doesnt open Windows.

Ive now restored my PC back to normal, but I still want service pack 2 because loads of softwares doesnt work on it.

What should I do?

throw it out the window and buy a macbook..

You could try reformatting it or contacting the Sony tech support.

I've reformatted it loads of times its still exactly the same.
Can I take it to the shop I got it from?
I bought insurance but I dont know if I can use it on system errors

I thought it was stuff like hardware errors like it wont turn on.

Are you downloading SP2 fresh each time you try it?

have you tried a CD version from a friend?

Have you tried ordering a CD version from MS? (I don't have the URL but I know they do it).

My Friend said he will try and get me a CD with Service pack 2 - I bet it will be a pirate copy and not from microsoft.
Ordering one from microsft is so expensive - last time I seen it, it was about £20

One of my m8 said wait for vista, Microsoft said after 10 August all Service pack 1 PC will transition to a non-supported status. So I dont think it can load up Vista Installation.

I believe the problem may be the branded Windows XP Home, under "My Computers" properties, if it shows a sony logo, it will be a branded/vaio specific copy, which may cause issues with the sp2 (has done in the past for me with toshiba laptops).

For more information on this, go here :

Nice idea, but not really practical. He's asking how to fix Windows, not what he should get as a replacement.

Indeed, besides, Linux would be the best replacement.

Yeah, but he'd have to stop washing to get Linux.
