I jost "got" myself VMWare workstation and need some help on how to use it. I have installed it Windows XP. I also have ubuntu 6.06 on my second hard drive which has 1 NTFS partition, 1 ext3 Linux partition, and 1 Linux swap partition.
How do I set up VMWare to load Ubuntu? Thank you for reading this post. FrozenOverflow |

You should have the ubuntu ISO.
Just create a new virtual machine, set it up with the required stuff (hdd space, etc) and boot it. Mount the Ubuntu ISO in the VMware workstation thing. As soon as the virtual machine boots, press Delete to go to its BIOS and select the CD drive as the first boot and follow the instructions. Have a go, and ask for help if you get stuck somewhere. |

Mounting the ISO means that you have to load it off the hard disk; You won't have to burn it to a CD.
The first time, just start the VM, then check out one of the menus. It will give you an option to mount a CD image. Use that. |

Sorry, I don't think I explained myself properly, I have ubuntu allready installed with some extra programs etc. I downloaded on my second hard-drive, do I have to boot the install/live cd ISO to use ubuntu or can I load the one I have installed on my second hard-drive?
thanks. |

Now I'm totally lost.
If you mean to say that you want to run the already-installed ubuntu on your second hard disk IN vmware, you can't do that. If you want to use ubuntu in vmware, you'll have to install it IN vmware, regardless of whether you have it anywhere else or not. You could probably copy the downloaded stuff using a utility, but you can't boot a real already-installed OS inside VMWare. You have to install it in vmware. -= Double Post =- Now I'm so confused, I said the same thing thrice :\ Last edited by Riiiidge Raaaacer!; 09-09-2006 at 08:33 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
