Default Linksys router problem.

I today finally got my Linksys wired DSL/cable router, So it comes with a cd on what to do and how to set it up, so i did everything that it said several times, and even went through it, so I can make sure I did it correctly, on the last step it prompts you to make sure all the lighta are on and not blinking, ok. So I click on next and it starts going from 1-100% and it says "checking router" so when it gets to 22% It says that it cannot find the router, please make sure all plugs are connected. What the hell am I doing wrong?? I ma getting sooo iratated my head is going to explode!!

all help is appreciated

How is it connected to the PC? USB or Ethernet?

Have you got a firewall program (norton etc) installed on your pc?

Is windows firewall enabled?

Do you have the network icon in your system tray? Is it showing connected?

Do you know the routers IP address? usually it is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1

Take the cd, and snap it in half. Connect the ethernet directly into your computer from your cable/dsl modem. run ipconfig /all and note everything, then set the router up. log into the router using 192.168.1.1 (default for linksys) using admin:admin for username and password. Go to the setup tab and put in the info for the dns servers and everything else it asks you from the ipconfig window.
