Default Problems installing XP Home Edition on my PC, help?

Hi dudes/dudettes!

I am having a major problem (major for me) because whenever I try to install my XP Disc, completely legit copy, it pauses have way through the installation and just shows a black screen with a box where the mouse was, with the mouse in it and whatever was behind the mouse. I am getting really pissed of, if ANYONE has any idea how I could fix this, or tell me the problem so I can look it up else where, it will be greatly appreciated.

DANGNAMIT, just realised I posted this in the graphics section, sorry. Mod, move it plz? Please don't post about this being in the wrong forum. thanks.

A possibility is your Windows XP disc was scratched, this could be true if it keeps stopping in the same place each time.

Maybe it is to do with a piece of hardware, it can't install it properly and freezes. Try disabling things you don't use in the BIOS.

ok, BIOS? How do I enter that, and I don't know of any hardware I don't use.

My disc is new....bought it yesterday, well, my dad did, for his other PC. so there is no scratches what so ever

okay when you switch on comp try to install xp again, when it asks what type of install select clean install, it will then format the disk.

it doesn't have an option for 'clean' install....it does have a completely new kinda xp install (doesn't actually say that). i am sure, when i did that last time, it comes up with a partition thingy, no formatting option.

make sure to select any options about formating disks

have you got any hardware that needs extra drivers e.g. a wireless card.

it's quite common for hardware that requries drivers to mess up the xp installation, can you disconnect it. Or do you have something like a memory stick which you can put the drivers onto.

okay got a way to find out exactly what your problem is.

when you start up your computer hold shift and f10. You'll get a command prompt, type cd windows, then edit setupact.log, go to the last line whatever it says is what is causing the problem. If nothing helpful do the same but with edit setuplog.txt instead.

Can i fix this?

Its a problem with the drivers.

Was the graphics card installed when you bought the pc, or did you add it afterwards?
