I will gine 100k points to anyone that can help me solve my problem within 1/2hr, 50k from 1/2-1hr and 10k for 1hr+.
Here's my problem. I installed Windows SP2 which ****ed my computer up basically. It disabled all the services which were easily re-enabled. But there is one service that I cannot re-enable, DHCP Client. When I enable it the computer works fine but 3 seconds later it restarts and keeps restarting when it reaches the windows login screen. The only way I can get on the computer is to roll back the computer to before I enabled it (but I need the net) or to use safe mode, which is obviously **** :/ Another thing is that it always says that dependencies failed to load for all services. Anyone that can help me enable DHCP Client in normal mode and make it not restart endlessly wins. |

@xsorifc28 To before I installed SP2? No. To before I enabled DHCP Client? Yes.
@L_o_N_e_R Reinstalling is not an option. And I think you are asking is my XP legit, it is. @MaSt3r_ShAk3 It enables and for 3-6 seconds the net is up before it restarts. |

I'm not too sure what to do, but I need points so I'll take a stab at it.
You could try using a static IP so you don't need to use DHCP. Boot into safemode with networking. Press start, then press Run. Type in cmd Type in ipconfig /all Note down all the numbers there, IP address, default gateway, primary and secondary DNS. Now boot into Windows normally and right click the network icon in your tray. Click Status, then click properties, then click Internet Protocol and select properties. On that screen, enter the details that you got from safe mode and then you shouldn't need DHCP to connect to the network. If that fails, in regular Windows, type in services.msc into 'Run'. Find the DHCP service, right click it and select properties. Click the recovery tab and make sure each of the settings is set to 'take no action' |

Pop in the Windows XP disk and hit repair. The same kind of thing happened to me and that fixed it. Good luck.

A repair install will take him back to SP1. You could try it then install SP2 again, but personally that would be a last resort. Some more ideas: Some BIOS have the option to restart on a WLAN signal. Check your BIOS to see if that is enabled and disable it. This does not explain why it suddenly happened with SP2. Also check here, there might be some useful info http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dhcp.htm Also this page says DHCP is not required with a static IP http://www.theeldergeek.com/dhcp_client.htm So if you do set up a static IP, it shouldn't bother you anymore. |

You're using a modified version of Windows? I've had these problems when I tried to customise it, but messed up somewhere...
First, try using a factory-pressed Windows CD, and if it works, you know where the problem is. |

This happened to me twice because I tried to update my laptop with the latest updates and suprisingly enough it was a Compaq laptop. I just formatted it so I can't help you much but I found this which could help you.
