I don't use the default Windows explorer. Theres a 3rd party alternative called xplorer2

The main reason I switched from IE6 to Firefox was because of tabbed browsing. xplorer2 lets you do the same for browsing folders. Also it has 2 panes and a bunch of other functions that make it vastly superior to the normal Windows explorer.

Also Vista uses a breadcrumbs system to browse through folders, it is terrible.

yea i just to use that to but you know of any way to make it defalut instead of opening a folder with windows explorer

There's no way to do this as far as I know. I just add all the common folders I visit to the built in bookmarks and keep an xplorer2 icon on my desktop. Not an ideal situation but it's the best I can come up with. It might be possible to do it through the registery but I don't know how.

Also to remove any of Windows default programs, use nLite

Replace WMP with Winamp, Outlook with Thunderbird, IE with FF etc.

She has a Mac, she made that eLoader installer for Mac amongst other things.

Making a new program for exploring files for the sake of it isn't a good reason. I agree the default explorer is crap though.
When Microsoft do try to make things better in Vista, it went crappier. The new system doesn't have a button to go to the paren't directory. No way to access the C:\ unless you go through My Computer. At least in Windows XP you could type C: to get to the C drive. Also there is no way to tweak where my documents/music/videos goes to. I keep my important files on a seperate partition but it won't allow me to redirect My documents to that partition.
