Default Vista problem and some questions

I got a change to fix up my laptop today, and I just got the Mircosoft MAPS program which entitles me to all of microsofts software and new windows builds. Well i got Vista Beta 2 in the package. Theres 2 Vista discs: A blue one anda green one. The writing is EXACTLY the same on both discs, and my first question is: What is the difference between the discs. I installed the blue disc on my laptop (disc fully formatted, Gateway Solo 1450 with 512 meg memory, 30 gig harddrive, 1.33 GHz) and it is SERIOUSLY f'ed up. The resolution is so low it can barely display images. And I know it can display higher resolutions because when it's logging me on it shows my background in PERFECT resolution, then when i actually get logged on it SUCKS. Somebody help?

I'm sorry to tell you this but Beta 2 sucks ass.

Download RC1 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...y/preview.mspx

You Beta 2 key will work with RC1, so that's fine.

At least this way you know what you will be getting.

Another possible issue is what video card you have. nVidia drivers for Windows Vista have been updated so that might be good news for you. Sadly, if you have an ATI card, there are many issues, ATI have always been known to be crappy with their Catalyst drivers.

Also it could just be your laptop can't handle vista, in which case you should just disable the Aero interface.

That sounds right. Since yours actually booted up you must have the right one.

You disable Aero by right clicking on your wallpaper and clicking customize, from there you can turn off things like Aero and transparency.

It starts off OK because Aero hasn't loaded yet I think.

OK I'll explain with a bit more detail

1. Right-Click on a blank area of desktop
2. Select personalizefrom the context menu
3. Click the Windows colour and appearance option
4. You can also disable the whole aero glass theme from here. Just click the 'open classic appearance properties for more colour options' link
5. Select a non-Aero theme and click OK.

No, I'd only recommend you get the 64bit version if you have 4Gb of RAM. Otherwise get the 32 bit one.

One of the 2 disks might be a 64-bit build...

In that case, it would have those problems if there aren't any good drivers. You see, in Windows Vista 64bit, they won't allow unsigned drivers, so at this point, the drivers might be the problem..

Obviously, the theory is useless if you're using a 32bit proc, but....
