ubuntu is the normal build and uses GNOME for graphics

xubuntu uses the XCFE thing, it looks like crap so its runs really really well on REALLY old hardware

Kubuntu, is ubuntu with a KDE interface for graphics

Edubuntu, ubutnu for education.

From the pics of GNOME I've seen, I may switch to ubuntu soon.

From screens I've seen, Kubuntu looks even more cool.

Too lazy to go and try it though. :S

if you whould just go to there web pages and read

ubuntu use Gnome

kubuntu use kde

Xubuntu,is a complete GNU/Linux based operating system with an Ubuntu base. It is lighter on system requirements and tends to be more efficient than Ubuntu with GNOME or KDE, since it uses the Xfce Desktop environment, which makes it ideal for old or low-end machines, thin-client networks, or for those who would like to get more performance out of their hardware.

i like to use Kubuntu just for it frish clean look and the fact it has a smart menu just to make it fells a bit more like windows

btw i do know this can be done with ubuntu also but i be to lazy to do it

I prefer Gnome, but that's just a personal preferance.

I'd use either Ubutu or Kubuntu, just because the other 2 are lame. (Education? seriously...)
