Default God Help The Speakers!!!

Hello. im very upset today. i go to turn on my computer and BAM!!! static sound coming from all of my speakers. its not the speakers because when i mute them or change the volume from the PC it goes away but then there muted and as useless as doorstops. (well i guess door stops arent useless but that wasnt my point) im running a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP2 update rollup 2 and its all updated and stuff. i hand built my PC ive got an Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with hyperthreading. an all in wonder AGP X800XL its a 256MB GPU, and im using and asrock 775VM800 motherboard.

it wasnt doing this last night so i cant figure out what to do thanks.

Check your drivers are updated.
Check that your cables are plugged into the PC properly, being slighlty out means a lot of static.
If you have a cell phone, try moving it away from your PC, that can cause static.
If your sound is onboard, consider getting a proper soundcard as onboard is more susceptible to electrical interference, which will cause static. A Chaintech AV-170 is perfectly fine for a 2.1 setup.
