Default Holy ****: Intel Core2Duo E4300

I read a great article just now about the Intel Core2Duo E4300

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...oc.aspx?i=2903

Summary: a $163 processor can be overclocked easily using DDR2-800 RAM and it will reach the performance of a Core2Duo X6800 which costs nearly 5 times as much!

It is VERY impressive, probably the best value processor I have ever seen.

Wow thats nice. I was looking into a core 2 duo but decided to wait cause I have been a amd 64 fan for a while. Now I have even more reason to go intel.

And for other's the Intel core 2 has been destroying amd in benchmarks. So for your next upgrade you gotta check them out.

With the soon-to-be 40% price drop of the C2D's, I would rather wait a bit more, save up a bit more money and get an e6400 or e6600 rather than that.

But that's just me, hehe.

Or perhaps the price will drop to a reasonable amount that even the Q6600 will be a think-able buy.
That is, after I get a P5B Deluxe lol.

Intel will be launching the quad core cpus soon. Probably be to far out of my price range. Buts if you got the cash the quads are coming.

(Currently I don't think much of anything take's advantage of quad core cpus.)

Launching soon?

Check here: Link

But there was an article saying that the Q6600 will be priced at $531 ($513?). So many people will probably jump the gun on that one, while the not so fortunate jump the gun on the C2D's.

That price drop is also hitting the E4300 too in Q2 2007. It will go down to a tiny $133.
In terms of raw performance, I agree that the processors you mentioned are better, but as for price/performance ratio, the E4300 is amazing.

Sure wish I could afford such a cpu. I read the article about them a while ago so I did not take into account they may be out.

And the price drop will be great for me. For the 4300 the performance is sweet just like you said. I been a amd guy for a while but u gotta admit intels got it right now.

I wish I had waited a bit before building my PC. I knew the intels were better but I didn't realise how much better. Oh well at least when I next need to upgrade I know which way to go.

I've got an AMD 4400 X2. As soon as I work up the courage for a vcore mod I have in theory the possibilty to OC to 3.08GHz per core, which is a huge jump from the stock 2.2GHz. I can't even get it to boot at 2.64 GHz, but it will POST so it literally is lack of power when it gets any sort of load on it. So for now I'm stable at 2.4GHz.

I'd love to get my hands on a core2 but I don't have the money for a new mobo and CPU right now.

My gf just got a new PC, I tried to sway her to get a c2d but she is a die hard AMD fan and refused to admit that the Intels are better. It's her loss though.

The speed isn't the only difference between the E4300 and X6800 I think the cache is different too, but it's still perty cool.

I'm getting £400 overtime paid at the end of the month. If I hadn't upgraded my PC fairly recently then I'd be buying one of these babies. But so far I'm just planning on buying some nice quiet Sharkoon 1000 120mm fans and sharkoon 2000 80mm fans.

Might get a silver pen, do the vcore mod to my mobo and also buy a decent hsf and oc the hell out of my 64 X2. Some decent RAM could be on the cards too. First is definitely the decent quiet fans and I need to get some number plates made up for my car.
