what apps should i get on my pc? like aim msn hex workshop, quicktime etc.

If you still using IE for browsing switch to Firefox.

I also like Free download manager http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/
Speeds up downloads a very good amount for me

"Tune Xp" No longer updated but has some really helpfull tweaks.

depends what you wanna do and if you mind cost.
For, IMO, a better fre download manager, get download accelerator.
DVD Shrink can help you rip and reauthor DVDs, while DVD Decrypter can write the files DVD Shrink outputs. I use thos 2 a lot. For video files I use VLC Media Player or Media Portal. One game I LOVE to play is Linerider. It is an online game, but I use a stand alone version you can download.
