I thought maybe people will want to chat about Windows Vista, the new operating system for PC's being released by Microsoft soon, and ask Q's about it etc (people like me

) so I am making this thread for you guys (and me).

Basically you go to that website on friday and watch a conference then answer a question. The first 1000 will get a free copy of Vista Ultimate. I can't do it seeing as I am at university all day.

When installing vista, do you have to clean install or can you save your files with any kind of express thing?

i have the pirated vista and i can say its totally worth it. and you can either install it on another portion or upgrade xp

I've tried Vista Ultimate and its great, no troubles what so ever. On Aero theres no slow downs or anything, might even be taking up less resources than XP!

Ugh I have Vista on another partition.

The interface is pretty, sure. But there are like no more reasons to have it excluding directx 10

I guess, I mean if you want an OS that is slower, and is a resource hog, then more power to you.

I was using windows vista ultimate for a while and loved it but lost it due to an incident newyears day at 3am (after a new years party) and I was very tired and decided it was a good idea to try and dual boot win XP as well as vista, and accidentially formated my internal hardrive and lost my copy of vista (rc1)

and my music collection . Fortunately I had all my source code and work backed up in a vista backup(.vhd) file on my external harddrive. I have tried to use microsoft virtual machine to access the .vhd file to retrieve my work does any one know of a way of getting access to my files without reinstalling vista (I am now waiting for the official ultimate release).

Why dont you get the actual retail version of vista flying off in the internet?? Its RTM meaning that thats the last version of vista before actually selling them

Meh, XP is good enough for me. Fancy looks aren't gonna get me to buy an OS, I've got windows blinds for that

. I'm not gonna pay money for another windows release that all it adds is OS verifaction, LOL, what a ripoff.

I'll keep my $200 and buy a few new video games or something.

I myself heard the complete opposite. According to most I have heard from it allot more recourse friendly compared to XP. If I have the extra cash i might get it in Feb.
