Default Why doesnt Sound work?

For the past week I have been having sound problems. Everytime I start my computer and leave it for maybe 2 hours the sound will stop working. Songs dont progress in itunes or any other media player when I press play and all other sounds just do not work. After I restart I regain sound playback, but why is this happening. I occasionally had this problem before a week ago but not often, now it seems like everytime i use the computer.

Please help me

Thanks

I believe it's a problem with iTunes. I've had the same problem since my cousin installed iTunes on this PC. After a few hours sound absolutely stops working. My suggestion is that you uninstall iTunes, sell your iPod, and get a real MP3 player.

I've had a similar problem, but not exactly the same. My sound would get choppy and make irritating scratching noise, but only when using iTunes. Any other media player played music flawless... The new update of iTunes fixed the problem though, gotta love album browsing.

At first that is what I had thought. But my sound doesn't work in any program and even OS sounds are not working. I am puzzled and would love to find a solution.

Thanks

Hmmm... Are you using a PCI soundcard or the ones built into the motherboard?

I am using soundmax integrated sound and the driver appears to be up to date.

Well, what I do when in doubt of a connection or device, I boot a LiveCD of Linux and try to do it in that. I would find a version of Damn Small Linux and get it so you can test sound on Linux. That will isolate wheter its Windows or hardware that is causing the problem.
