Only problem is that I am clueless on how to get the video stream of the actual PS3 background saved onto my laptop

The only thing I can think of is a digital TV recorder, sort of like Neuros MPEG4 recorder, but that has crap resolutions so that pointless.

Anyone else got any Ideas?

My Laptop is powerful enough to have a HD video background, so I want to make good use of it.

I'm so close to replicating the XMB perfectly!

Try RocketDock with the Mac stack add-on. Then, place the dock at the top of your screen with a large offset (to lower it) and then get the PS3 icons...

RocketDock for the time and date in the top corner, ObjectDock for the main icons.

Surprisingly easy, but all I need to do is somehow get the actual XMB Background footage onto my laptop.

Believe me I've searched EVERYWHERE, I've got no choice but to try and take up the task of getting the XMB footage myself, then I can share it amongst the world if they need it.

I know it isn't the PS3 wave, but you could try this (record it).

that would def work, if someone sets a black background as their wallpaper, hide their taskbar, and make sure the desktop is blank then use a basic program to record it, it would basically be perfect :]

There's a program called 3DS Max which is capable of creating an almost identical form of the PS3 wave, it's just finding out how.

Theres only 1 place i've seen a PS3 playing the wave with nothing on the screen, and thats if it hangs going into the new store.

Actually you can burn a DVD of songs and just have the wave showing on its own.

Haven't tried it yet but apparantly it works :]

The Vista cursors would go quite nicely with it. Nice and simple.
