Either right click the desktop and uncheck 'show desktop icons' under 'arrange icons by >'

OR

Download TweakUI from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

It will allow you to change lots of things which Windows doesn't normally let you change.
