Default [RELEASE] Isometric Map System Test 4

Hey everyone,

A little over 2 years ago, I released the 3rd version of my isometric map system to hep beginning programmers learn some things. It sat on QJ collecting dust and being lost in the sands of webtime until I recently got a PSP again and got back into dev.

Before I undertake the coding portion of a large project based on this original idea, I decided that I would update some things and give it a breath of fresh air.

In this release I have:
  • Fixed an outdated syntax error
  • Added the ability to toggle the GUI with 'Triangle'
  • Added the ability to move the entity with the cursor, by pressing 'X' on the entity and moving to an unused title
  • Fixed the screenshot function with 'O'
  • Fixed a few minor bugs

Over the next few days I'll be fixing some things, adding a few new features, and generally prepping it as a base for an isometric map system for a beginner.

It's in LUA, and you must use a LUA interpreter to run it. To install, just copy to your MS and open it with your preferred LUA interpreter.

This was tested on my slim PSP running 3.90m33.

And video (Sorry about the quality, I had to use my cell phone as my Live Vision Camera distorted the colors and made it unviewable:

Hope you all enjoy! Questions, comments, flames, and burritos, you can leave below. Also, I noticed when reading the ooooold article, that some guy had posted that I stole the textures from some small MMORPG. As you can tell, my textures are complete crap, and were made by myself in Photoshop, so I can assure you that I did not steal them.

Kiks.

Just an update, I'll be releasing a small game called IsoAttack with three game modes later this week using this engine. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks guys, the new game called IsoAttack has these features:

3 game modes
- CTF, capture the flag
- TDM, kill all of the opposing enemies
- VIP, kill the leader of the enemies

Initially 2 player hand-off play, and later adding in rudimentary AI

It will be turn based

You will have a limited number of abilities at the beginning of each game, but you can pick up enhanced abilities from the map.

I'll also be updating the graphics, adding in a 'mission selector' so you can choose which maps you want to play.

I don't know if there will be a level editor yet, as text files have sufficed fine for me, but if I can find the time, I'll add that in and incorporate a mission editor for users to easily create their own maps.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, keep it to yourself!
Or we'll see a bunch of crappy games who's only merit is in YOUR work!

Seriously, nice to see someone helping out the majority
I would be inclined to complete the game (if I were a game programmer),
release the source, and then let the code vultures try to separate the
parts that they want to limit the amount of people that can use it.

Does that make me a bad person?

I'm going to complete it and make it a standalone eboot, and release the source separately.

It doesn't make you a bad person, I'd normally do the same, but my next project will totally outshine this, so I'm not worried.
