Set 6 (all 181 Grade 6 kanji) - Download - ADDED 4/9
Man! I feel like I've been working on these forever, and right now I'm only halfway done. But I'm excited again because by keeping track of kanji lists as I go along (removing a kanji once I complete a video), I now have a list of all the 939 remaining Jouyou Kanji (that is, the entire 1,945-character Jouyou Kanji list with the 1,006 Kyouiku Kanji removed). It's something I haven't actually seen online before and it's also something I wanted to create for the longest time. Future updates might be a little slower since Sets 7 and up will be 250 kanji each. I also have big plans for the final update; I'll include this kanji frequency list, but edited so the Kyouiku Kanji and most non-Jouyou Kanji are removed, resulting in a list of the remaining 939 Jouyou Kanji listed by frequency. I'll probably include a few essential non-Jouyou Kanji as well (if you can read the Japanese Wiki page on Jouyou Kanji, you'll get the idea). I'm also including those DK entry numbers on that list so you can find the corresponding videos to make your own custom sets easier. This all might be in the form of a web page (or portal) that you can even view on your PSP...

And tonight I was going to go through and folder these by when I learned/will be learning these in 90 kanji sets.
Thanks, will have to do a lot more reading up on all of this tonight and then get to work on sorting them for easy use on my PSP. Edit: Also getting around to finally sorting some of these so I can study ahead a bit in a fashion that should work for me.

Mate these are fantastic! Personally I've been running each batch through SUPER and converting them to a native resolution for my iPod Touch... keep up the good work...
Oh, would you like me to upload batches of the iPod Touch formatted files? I now have a buttload of webserver space that I'm not making the most of (1500GB, it would seem). haha |

Wow, I didn't even consider all the other handheld media devices. Kinda makes me think it's all worth it...
Feel free to upload the converted files, but you still might want to link to this thread somewhere. |

UPDATE: Set 7 (250 additional Daily Use kanji) added. I also included kanji lists in the PICTURE folder for your PSP - 50 kanji per image.
Set 7 (250 additional Daily Use kanji) - Download - ADDED 4/20 A list of these 250 kanji in order along with their DK entry numbers (also their video file numbers) is here. Although most of you probably wouldn't (and shouldn't) care, when beginning on this set of the 939 remaining Daily Use Kanji (i.e. Jouyou Kanji), I noticed there were a lot of full kanji lists online that weren't in any order at all. I was using this list at first, and when I edited it down to 939, it ended up looking like the list on the bottom of this page. At first glance, it looked like it was properly ordered like the grade sets (arranged in ア・イ・ウ・エ・オ, then further sorted by stroke count and finally by radical), but kanji like 井, 稲, 浦, and 沖 appeared earlier than they should have. So I just remade the list according to the 常用漢字一覧 page. These kanji range from ア to コウ. Advantages of learning in ア・イ・ウ・エ・オ order: It's no coincidence that kanji with similar on-readings have similar shapes. 監, 艦, and 鑑 all have the on-reading カン, while 峡, 挟, and 狭 all have the on-reading キョウ. At least this way the task of learning new shapes is reduced. Disadvantages of learning in ア・イ・ウ・エ・オ order: You might end up spending more time learning rare kanji. 謁 is rare but appears early on the list, and 斤 and 且 weren't even on that frequency page. |

Cool, thanks. Seems this has already made front page too.

UPDATE: Set 8 (250 additional Daily Use kanji) added. I also included kanji lists in the PICTURE folder for your PSP - 50 kanji per image.
Set 8 (250 additional Daily Use kanji) - Download - ADDED 4/27 439 kanji remaining. Just two more sets and this whole thing will be done... or at least until 2010 according to the Japanese wiki, since that's when even more characters might be added. The last update to the official list was back in 1981 so it's not like it happens often... |

Thanks, though I haven't been keeping up with reviewing these or even just sorting it is great to know that these are there for when I need them.
