G6 Lite Review
By: Team G6 Flash www.g6flash.com WHERE TO BUY http://g6flash.com/global_sell_net.htm Introduction to the G6 Lite by Team G6 Flash The G6 Lite is one of the newest flash carts available for the Nintendo DS. What's so appealing about this flashcart is that it is the exact size of the gba filler cart that comes with the Nintendo DS Lite. G6 flash carts are unlike a lot of popular flashcarts, because of the fact that it is one of the only carts that have internal memory. This is a review of the 4Gigabit edition of the G6 Lite. Contents in the Box Opening the small white box that was in the package, I saw a nice little round tin that plainly said "G6 Lite." The contents of this tin include one G6 Lite itself, one GBA shell ( If you aren't using the G6 Lite on a DS Lite), one blue shell that you could also use as a G6 Lite ( If you had a light blue DS Lite, and wanted the G6 Lite to match), and a USB burner. Another thing that came in the box was a mini-cd that contained the G6 software and drivers you would need. (The drivers are not likely needed unless your OS is Windows 98 or lower) Anyway, it seems like a pretty perfect package right? Wrong. Inside the box, came no sorts of instructions, at all. So people with little or no flash kit knowlege will have to read up on the internet. All in all, the first look of the flash cart/box was very pleasing and I couldn't wait to actually test the cart, itself. Trying it out This part was pretty easy, I slid the G6 Lite onto the USB burner, and then pluged it in an available USB port on my computer. My PC recognized it right away. If you wish to put homebrew on the G6 Lite, it's as simple as drag-and-drop. However, if it's roms you wish to put on; the proccess is different. For this, you have to install the G6 Software (for some it came in a mini-cd with the G6 Package, for some it didn't) When the G6 program is started up, it asks you which drive is the drive where the G6 Lite is located. Now that we got through that, it's time to actually write some games to the G6. If you wish to write a NDS game to the G6, simply click on the NDS tab, at the top of the program. Then click write. It should ask you what rom you want to transfer, and what settings you want to use. ( I recommend the default settings, but if a game doesn't work, look around online; and you will probably be able to find a solution ) After you press ok, the progress bar quickly moves along, and soon enough you will get a popup saying "Write OK!" Seeing this, you could either continue writing more roms, or plug out the USB device. NOTE: If you wish to write GBA games to the G6, it's almost the same thing. You just click on the GBA tab. The Interface After writing roms to the G6 Lite, the next obvious step is to try it out! When loading it up on the first time, I was amazed. The interface is really, really nice. The reason for this is because among your NDS roms, are their individual icons. A new addition for Nintendo DS flashcarts, is that you can actually control everything with the stylus. Everything from launching roms/homebrew, to launching GBA mode; can be contolled with the stylus. The GBA interface is also really nice, as next to the name of the rom; is a splash screen of the rom. Launching Games and Media Launching roms/homebrew, is as simple as touching the roms name with the stylus. You see a little timer in the middle of the the screen, and when the timer is filled, the rom is launched. If you want to play GBA games, you simply press Y when on the main DS interface. It will reboot to the GBA mode. When you are there, you use the d-pad to select the rom and press A. I have tested many games that reqiure fast memory such as DS games like Metroid Prime:Hunters, and Castlevania, and GBA games such as Gunstar Super Heroes and Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. The G6 Lite launched them all perfectly, and they all ran with no glitches. For media, I haven't tried G6 media player yet, but I have tried using Moonshell G6 which came on the mini-cd I recieved. I had no problems using Moonshell, as I am used to it from my old M3. Music sounded crisp, and small video files (Since the G6 only has 512mb internal memory, you cannot put any large video files on it) ran very well after being converted with BatchDPG Conclusion The G6 Lite is obviously a really good - if not the best, flashcart available at this time. I would give it a 9.5/10 Pros + Same size as the gba filler cart. And it is glossy as well to match the DS Lite design. + Very nice and easy to use interface + Included GBA shell for the Nintendo DS + Built in Media Player + Very high game compatibility with no glitches at all + Fast game loading and writing Cons - Size is not large enough for some, and it can't be upgradable. - Some people may find writing games hard with no instructions or manual - The PDA option is currently only available in Chinese. Editors Note: If anyone wants me to elaborate on a part of the review, please say so and I will. This goes along if anyone wants to see anymore pictures of the features of the g6 lite. 512MB is enough for me..I'll use my PSP for media. I don't care for the media features. I just want to use it for trying DS games(Then buying them if I like what I see). And homebrew.

But once it did, I bought it straight away. Same with Tales of Eternia for the PSP, which I wound up buying in a German store. The box and instructions are all in German but the whole game itself is in English...strange for a Euro release. I bought Ys: Ark of Napishtim but in order to make it actually playable and not sit at a the LOADING screen for half the time, I ripped it to an ISO and play it from the memory stick. It used to be a technical issue, but now it's more of a moral one.

WTF are you talking about. This review has nothing to do with piracy. *Edit, I stand corrected*. If you have 10 DS games why not dump them all onto 1 cart and just cary that 1 cart. How is that related to piracy? Last edited by DeVS; 07-19-2006 at 02:32 PM.. |

K I got a question on this. I just got a DS Lite this morning and came across this part of QJ through the PSP site. I was wondering if there was any extra equipment that I need to use this. Also is the flash cart re-writeable? Im just making sure.

Do you guys know of a site that sells both the english G6 Lite and NinjaPass Junior? Easier for me if you happen to know of one. And yeah man there are certain PSP games that take up my entire 1 GiG memory stick. So I have to use my 2 gig for media....
