If my car ever sells I am going to purchase an iMac.
To save all the "Your selling your car to buy a pc wtf" messages I will explain why I am doing so.
You see I am currently unemployed and could be for a couple of years........why?
Because I decided to pack in my crappy dead end job and try and make something out of myself. I am a developing C++ / Php coder who is looking to move into application or game development for a living when I am ready. So I obviously have no money to get petrol even for my car let alone insure or tax it.
My pc blew up recently too so I am currently stuck on a crappy 1.5ghz packard bell laptop that is noisy, slow and locks up all the time. Asking it to multi task is like asking pigs to fly, using irc webchat alone makes the fan go so loud it sounds like the thing is going to blow. lol.
So I decided to put my car up for sale and when it sells to buy a nice new iMac, as I am a up and coming developer and I am going to be learning and developing 24/7 of course, so a stable fast iMac will help me a lot more than my crappy laptop or a car sitting in the driveway :p
The iMac I have chosen is this :
- 20" iMac
- 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- 2GB memory
- 320GB hard drive1
- 8x double-layer SuperDrive
- ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO - with 256MB memory
Costing a cool €1600.
So anyways after all that talk here is my question.
If I order it from the apple site how long does delivery usually take?
I live in Ireland and have bought Dell Pc's in the past with an average delivery time of around 5-10 days. Can I expect apple to send me my iMac that fast?
Also I have been a windows fanboy all my life (used win since I was 8) and never used a mac.... I hate vista and that was my primary reason for changing, + xp isn't all that.
Can or does someone have a list of top programs (preferably free ware) for the mac? (general stuff like anti-virus, anti-spyware, word processing, gfx, coding, im etc)
