iPhones Majorly Underclocked
It appears Apple underclocks the iPhone to 400MHz, even though the processors they use are really 624MHz. Apple underclocks the iPhone for better battery life, but the real question is why does Apple use a 624MHz processor to start with? We'll obviously see some big improvements and features from Apple that might actually require the 624MHz processor. If the processor is this underclocked, imagine how underclocked the GPU is. The iPhone actually has a really good GPU, but Apple nor any devs have used it to its full potential, nor have tried clocking the GPU nor the processor to their native speeds. The leaked information about firmware 1.1.3 shows the iPhone has some really great changes coming, and with the SDK coming out I wouldn't doubt Apple allowing developers to use the iPhone's full speed.
