    Halo 2/ Unreal own any old fps and Doom3 just like all Doom games suck
    DOOM sucks? you think halo 2 is better than doom?
    :ROFL:
    WOW

    doom 1 was WAAAAAYY better than halo 2
    same with doom 2, and 3 (and the doom movies comin out soon :) )

    Anywho...

    i have to agree that the classics were the best
    the only types of games that have REALLY gotten any better was FPS and maybe sports (im not really into sports but all my friends into sports stillb like NBA JAM way better than current gen games) but they still had some great classic roots.

    but i have to say that today, even if games have 100x the graphics theyre still not as fun or fun for long. all (or most) of the new games can be beaten in a week, tops, and then get boring. compared to super mario bros 3 for nes or super mario 64 or even, hell, the pokemon gb games (they were actually pretty good rpg's) which took a couple months to beat and were VERY replayable. back then people worried about GAMEPLAY and FUN two terms long since forgotton

    but dont get me wrong, i still like the new stuf comin out, its just sometimes its a little disappointing (like Half-Life 2 which i beat in 2 days)

    and also, i babysat for a bunch of little kids a couple years back and they all were crazy about pac-man and dig dug. they all had those namco classic packs that they make for every system

    Yea, well too many new companies and games try to push every inch of graphics, speed, and "looks" into the game and forget that the game is supposed to be FUN.

    Look at Phantasy Star Online, DC game that still goes strong.. same with Counter Strike. They arent that retro, but they sure havent been replaced yet.

    Old games were fun, they didnt need high graphics to make it better, Sports and FPS I can understand there.. but the core still plays the same as the new ones..

    i'm sorry but i wholly disagree. doom 1 did suck and isn't fit to be uttered in the same sentance a halo one or two. it was original at the time and thats all it had going for it

    Just to chuck in my opinion....

    I don't think you can say that either old games or new games are better - alot of old games were really bad - and despite shiny graphics, alot of new games are equally bad!

    The way we play games has changed as well. Anyone notice the lack of focus on high score these days?

    My favourite ever games include Last Ninja 2, Streets of Rage, Toe Jam & Earl, Mario Kart, Super Star Wars, Toca Race Driver 2, Dawn of War and Counterstrike - thats a nice mix of old 8bit & 16bit classics as well as up to date games - I can still lose as many hours playing the old classics on my PSP as I can playing Dawn of War on my PC!

    Hows that for sitting on the fence?

    Man its just funny.. New system.. devs 1st order of buisness... getting emulators to work thus increasing the line of games for the system.

    Not bad considering nowadays game companies are even porting them.. Look at the FF makes for GBA and DS planned or out there.. They dont do too much cause the game is solid enough. FFIV is a highly sold GBA game right now.. Im waiting on FFVI personally.. even tho I am playing it on PSP now.

    I can't believe Im gonna say this but I agree with Soviet and I prefer newer games over the older ones. Anything SNES and after is what I like, anything before that can stay as a memory.

    I'd love to get a retro collection goin like Turbo but I don't have the money or space for it. And it would most likely be a waste of money as they really wouldn't get a lot of use.

    Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if pac man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music

    Here's my SNES. It's still hooked up in my room, and I still play it. And it has my favorite game of all time in it: The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To the Past. And also, here's my PSP playing Pokemon Blue =]

    I'm too young to have all the other older systems, I'm only 14. But I do have emulators =] And about the whole old games vs. new games thing. I'm pretty much split. I mean, there's so many current-gen games that I couldn't imagine gaming without them, but there are also so many classics that are the reasons I got into gaming in the first place. I think the first game I can DISTINCTLY remember playing is Zelda: LttP, and it still is to this day my favorite video game, and Zelda games are my favorite video game series of all time ^_^;;

    Lol, I wonder if here in 10 or 15 years, the current-gen games that are so expensive will be just as easily downloadable online as the older games are now? And we'll probably all be playing Halo 3 on the PSP15, complaining about how the graphics are limited to just being displayed on the screen. Keke, that'll be the day...<_<;;

    i imagine we probably will. but nowadays downloading 9GB for a game seems a lot but in 10-15 years time with blu-ray/hd-dvd probly having a successor out and games being in the 100GB range it wont seem a lot at all.
