iPhone/iPod touch Discussion Thread

wut....

i have started using my new ipod touch and there are some strange things...

my old one that are in on repair was on the 2.0.2 firmware. i have now updated to the same firmware on my new one and some things are diferent. like the contrast is really high and some lines and graphics looks too bright. im very sure it didnt look like that on my old one. and the audio volume seams a bit higher for some reason. very strange.

some colors dont apear like in the screenshoots. for instance when you browse the music with the letters and where it says "songs"

the colors feels kinda washed out...

and also, if i look close on the screen and tilt it a little up and down, i can see some pixels light up a little depending on what angle im looking on them! :S

Yeah i know that, but pay as you go will be available later this year. I'm just wondering how much the iphone 3g will cost then.

Wait what?

There is no point in paying full price for a iphone...and then useing pay as you go..

Well, with pay-as-you go data on the iPhone, you would have a HELL of a bill.

I'd advise you to stay away from the iPhone 3G. You've seen the contracts. Unless your willing to pay £45+ a month then its going to be useless for you. Go buy the old iPhone off somewhere like gumtree..or look for a 3G iPhone and put your pay as you go sim in.

Well, problem is that without unlimited data, all the iPhone is is a phone, camera, and an iPod :/

How good is the sound on the iTouch? Is the bass any good?

I'm dissapointed with the new iTouch. Its pretty much just a revamp of features they should have added. If it had a STOP/PLAY button on the side, i'd get it. But volume controls are useless to me, i'd much rather have STOP.

The other difference is the sides. But i prefer the black metal sides to the iPhone sides.

Meh, i'll keep my iTouch and iPhone.



Another thing, Spore Origins is awesome. I was playing it last night, they've made it perfect for the iPhone. Controls are good and the graphics are the best i've seen on the device.

I use the device so often, that only seems logical to have the newest iteration. But after taking a look, the features seem to be so small, that it isnt worth it.


Not to mention, they cant be jailbroken and wont be till a new exploit is found.

They can be jailbroken, it's just that none of the dev team has one yet :O

My contract on my current phone ends at the end of october. I was looking at good phones to get and I'm thinking I would get a 16gb iPhone 3g. I just have a few questions for those of you who have one.

Is texting/smsing on the iphone tedious or annoying or once you get the hang of it is it as good as a phone with real buttons?

The battery life seems to be a big problem with the 3g iPhone, and I wanted to know how much battery life I can get from it? I wouldn't use push, I would have bluetooth off, and would regularly sms but rarely phone people. I'd use it for music quite a lot too. What sort of period of time would I be looking at before it needs to be recharged?

I find it to be alot easier then a normal mobile keypad. It takes a bit of getting used to but then its a breeze. Its also alot quicker then normal mobile keyboards. As you dont have to press the keys 3 times to reach a certain letter. I'd advise you checked out the keyboards on a iPhone instore before purchasing, just incase you dislike it.

Why is it a big problem? I use my iPhone all day long, making and recieving tons of phone calls. I have Push and Bluetooth off but the Brightness relatively high. I can get 2-3 days of use like that and i listen to about 30-60 mins of music per day. It isnt really a problem.

Very much so, thank you. Well I have a touch already, and have had to write some things down in notes, its nice to use, but I wanted someone's opinion.

As for the battery, I have just read that the battery can be drained in one day, which would be annoying, but the 2 to 3 days of heavy useage might translate to 4 days of just texting and music, which sounds good to me.

I havent used the GPS feature but i'm presuming its as good as the videos. Maybe not as smooth as it shows but it works well.

Ok well I think they are all the things I wanted clearing up. Do you recommend getting a case? I think the plastic back might be easily scratched.

The plastic back hasnt scratched on mine yet. If you worry about scratches get the white one. It doesnt really show them.

I've got one scratch across my screen and it really pisses me off. Quite deep too. So if i could recommend anything, i'd recommend a screen protector/Invisible Shield.

I jailbroke my 3G iPhone today. It all went well. But after JB'ing, i wouldnt get signal. No 3G or 2G network signal.

I worried and restored my iPhone fully and now its getting full signal from o2 again.

The only thing i can think i did wrong, was i didnt untick the "Activate" box on WinPwn.

Can anyone throw me a bone? I havent ever jailbroken a iPhone, so issues with network have never occurred for me.

Don't check the activate box, it's normal to get no signal.

First time I jailbroke my 3G it took 5 minutes of just sitting there before I finally got a signal. After that, it's all good.

Oh so i should have unticked the activate box?

Yes, if you bought the phone directly from O2 you should have left it unchecked

Bootloaders? I guess you mean the applications that jailbreak the iPhone's?


WinPwn is the one your after for Windows. Or Quickpwn/Pwnage Tool.

Filberto: is you are using an iPhone 3g do NOT change your bootloader.

Vee: The bootloader is what loads the system itself, those tools just jailbreak your software.

Well I will jailbreak a 3g some point in the coming month hopefully, so should I use quickpwn or pwnage tool? Im on Mac os x by the way.

I recommend that you use QuickPwn, with pwnage tool, you will lose everything that is currently on your phone and have to re-sync it again, a major pain in the ass if you ask me.

I recommend that you upgrade to 2.1, then run QuickPwn to pwn it without loosing anything.
