Upgrading past 2.0 means that the baseband is locked on the iPhone 3G. Stopping you from being able to unlock it in the future.


It isnt clever, especially when 2.1 doesnt offer that much over 2.0


If your certain you wont ever unlock your iPhone, then go ahead.

Unless it becomes fashionable all of a sudden, no it wont.


Theres loads of better MP3 players then iPods but people just generally pick iPod over Zune or Creative Zen.


Its just the way things are, HTC has nothing that looks as good as the iPhone.

Wait..so you're trying to argue that what determines a device to be better is how it looks? Personally I like the look of this new HTC device over the iPhone. It's got a nice form factor, a very high resolution screen, 5mp camera, and WinMo on it...those are just a few reasons it is better than the iPhone in my opinion. The one thing the iPhone lacks is a capable organizer and HTC has been at the forefront of WinMo devices and uses a very versitle platform

The iPod is a great MP3 player and meets the needs of many people. What defines a good MP3 player (and phone for this matter) is all up to personal opinion. Being the owner of several MP3 players I must say that the apple ones I've owned have always seem to come up on top in terms of usability. Apple products are great for those people who know little to nothing about computers and consumer electronics...it fits perfectly into their world. The Apple brand is a brand people trust and will continue to sell as they make excellent devices

Lol, no it doesn't, hell the DevTeam themselves said that if there an exploit to unlock it, the baseband version doesn't matter.

Oh, so its a case of if we ever could unlock the iPhone 3G baseband wouldnt matter.

Fair enough, i just remember reading at the time of 2.01 that anyone with a 3G iPhone should upgrade.

Nope, the baseband won't matter, as long as Apple leaves the "exploit" that lets us jailbreak our firmwares, we can still get into the baseband.

HTC's have been on the market for much longer than the iPhone has and has been in the mobile market for over 6 years. They have a very good name behind their products and lately they've been showing their true colors. I think HTC will have the iPhone beat, it all comes down to how it is marketed now

Not in the EU/UK.

They've only started bring these HTC phones out here, with the Touch and Diamond series.


Your comparing a brand to a model. Its like saying "Nokia will beat the Samsung D900".

Compare the best HTC phone to the iPhone, it'll be better but it wont sell more.

Actually I was clarifying that HTC is a well-known brand like the Apple brand if you have any sense in consumer electronics. They only build WinMo devices so it's more for the business class like Blackberries. When I referenced HTC I was referring to their new Touch model

Is it like Teleport? Where you can open up your VNC server on your PC and view your desktop?


Thats a fantastic app, if not the best. I use it so often, especially when i've someone else is on the PC, i'll start messing about or typing random stuff.

I'm confused. By upgrading to 2.1 or anything above this in the future my iPhone 3G would be impossible to unlock? Admittedly I don't see why I would want to in the immediate future but there is always a chance.
Can someone just confirm this for me?

Denied, you will still be able to unlock it as long as the DevTeam can figure out how to get it unlocked in the first place, regardless of version.

Oh that is ok then. When i get my iphone Il upgrade to 2.1, quickpwn it and be on my way :D

I get dirt there, but i think thats because of my Griffin iClear case. It makes dust and bits gather up there. I hate how the iTouch has a gap between the actual ipod and the black metal surrounding it. I got glue and dust all stuck in there. Grr.

I agree. Funny thing is, ever since i started pirating the software, its worked fine.

Like yesterday, i downloaded my first applications that i'd got off the App Store in ages. Myspace and Facebook. Both of them started failing the next day.

I'd just like to add, i've got 2 walls of pirated apps and not ONE of them has failed yet.


So wheres the incentive to pay for applications, if they dont work?

i've only seen this on 3 iPhones including mine

i got 1.5 of hacked and apps i payed for..
and .75 of a page of cydia apps

and 1 page of stock apps + cydia, installer

Woah, i never knew that could happen.

Mines just 3 pages of App Store apps.

Its good to see that the iPhone has its own safety mechanism.

I haven't had any bugs on my new 2.1 ipod..

i went on a 3G area then it turned into edge and never went back
so i did the airplane mode technique

There like the iphone...Good for when your in a room with yourself....But not anywhere else... I like them better than psp speakers..

I think the PSP speakers are louder then this... maybe it's because the PSP has 2 speakers and the iTouch 2G only has 1.

What does the iTouch 2g have that the iTouch 1g doesn't?

Speakers, Physical volume buttons, new curved sides and that Nike+ thing inside.


Oh and better battery life.

I noticed the font on my touch changed when I upgrded to 2.1 and jailbroke it. Is this the update or the jailbreak that did it?

Not sure.


I want to start developing for the App Store. Do i have to be on a Apple platform to do it?


If so, thats totally stupid. The App Store would be twice as good if everyone could develop for it.

The iPhone/Ipod Touch SDK are only available for the Mac to my knowledge (atleast when I downloaded it)

Hmph. Thats disappointing. I'd love to try my hand at it but i cant afford a Mac.
