Just Ordered a Dell Mini 9
guess im just a Dell [laptop] fanboy at heart, but I chose Dell because they look nicer than the Asus ones (and well, they use the same platform basically,so you gotta find something different about them).
I wanted the SSD,mainly for the 'cool' factor I supose, but hopefully the SSD in the Dell has some speed and power advantages over a regular HDD. The ASUS EEE's seem to be a pain in the rear with the small fast SSD then a second bigger slower one.
I ordered the Dell Mini with 512 RAM,XP home (wasnt waiting a month for the Ubuntu ones),16 gig SSD,bluetooth, and no Webcam. I also ordered the external usb powered DVD drive (the dell website dosent say its USB powered, but if you go to the I/O magic website it does),and a bag,my total was about $606 after shipping and taxes
I have a 80 gig 2.5" HDD im not doing anything with,so im gonna order an enclosure for it,a 2 gig RAM stick and a 16 gig SD card to complete my Netbook package, these parts total about 95 dollars after shipping.
So for about 700 dollars,I get a 9 inch laptop,2 gigs of RAM,16 gig internal SSD + 16 gig SD card = 32 gigs internal solid state storgage with a 80 gig USB drive for bulk files, bluetooth and an external DVD drive. Sure you could get a bigger, beefier laptop for that price, but its not as portable, and well, the solid state storage costs more, but hopefully its worth it.
