All compaq and hp computer's have it. It's actually it's kinda cool restores your computer to how it was when you first turned it on after buying it.

Yeah my Dad's Compaq computer has that as well, as said above there in all HP and Compaq PC's. You probably could remove it, and I would'nt remove that since it is a nice feature if or whenever something goes wrong with you're laptop computer.

If you really want to try removing the resortation files get a copy of Windows XP and format you're hard drives and reload Windows and see if that works other than that I am not sure how you get the restoration file(s) off you're computer since I never attempted to do that.

oh ok thanks well I have another question how would you find out what the memory in my laptop is... well please tell me, I know I have a 512mb but I don't know how to find the proof that it is 512mb...

When I opened the properties in my computer it says 385MB of ram... is that alright...

that means that ur IGP (intergrated Graphics) is using 128mb of system ram.

when u boot ur laptop, hold del key to enter bios and it tells u how much installed ram u have.

My VAIO does the same. However I couldn't seem to access this "hidden" partition until I installed Linux for some reason.

Probably because Windows had been pre-configured to block access to it.

Yeah, last time I came across a problem that required a rebuild, I didn't bother to check the manual to enable it lol.

No, to be honest I hate dealing with laptop memory modules etc. But I visit the computer fair every now and then so I usually have price lists of parts somewhere or other!
