Laptop for LAN gaming..
I hate lugging around my PC for LAN events, so i've been looking at laptops. The Sony Vaio FE870E looks pretty nice (no link for now because i'm on PSP) right now. It's got 2GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB HD (don't need much space because I will use it mostly for a few games and web surfing), widescreen monitor, a DVD writable drive, and other goodies.
Only, this laptop has an lntel GMA 950, which after some Googling, shows me it's fair. I mostly want to play CS: S on it so if someone could help me out, thanks.
CSS can be played on low end systems, so i wouldnt doubt that it couldnt
my old comp of:
512 mb DDR ram
1.2 Ghz AMD 2000+
Radeon 9800 Pro
could easily play source on low settings at about 25 fps
my dell e1705-
2 ghz core 2 duo
2 gigs of 533 mhz RAM
Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS
CD/DVD combo drive (took the burner out to save 40 bucks)
80 gig HDD
17 inch screen
80 whr 9 cell battery
$1670 final price (used my McDonlads gold card)
word of advice...dont get a laptop with a lot of RAM,buy the RAM seperately and put it in yourself,it will save ya (which I learned the hard way)

Anyways, it even includes Vista Premium, which would let me give the new OS a spin. I'm not sure how an Intel GMA 950 stacks up to a Radeon 9800 (I have a 9600 on my desktop and it runs CS: Source pretty damn good), so if anyone has any firsthand experience playing Source engine games on the GMA 950, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Intel? are you kidding me,you cant play games on integrated *****
look at this
mine is 8th on the list (or the 6th card down if you take out the SLIs)
yours I think is around 49th (I prolly miscounted, being that far down)
The GMA950 gives similar performance to the FX5200 ... which sucksss. BTW I never really liked Sony laptops. Try going for Toshiba/HP/Dell.
Alienware would be a nice suggestion.
alienware laptops are nice, but only if ur willing to put in alot of money.
-= Double Post =-
if ur budget goes high, i reccomend the Aurora mALX: \
CS:S runs fine on my laptop
1.86ghz intel pentuim M
nvidia geforce go 6400 gfx card w/64mb of its own mem + 64 borrowed from ram (yes, a seperate vid card is very needed, integrated cant do ****)
Id say get at least 512mb ram if not try for a gig or 2 and then a dedicated gfx card and you should be able to run it.
ibuypower has nice customizable laptops. theire desktops are sexier.
use a wired router for playing CS:S cuz WirelessLAN is slow...
My LT is Sony Vaio VGN-FS620 FS series.
works great on every games except the new games required Core.
