Being Chinese myself this is a real important issue to me. With the recent actions by the Chinese Government towards the popular type of meditation called Fa Luen Gong, many ex-communist and current members have withdrawn their party membership through a website (I'm not sure which). The actions which the Chinese gov. has put on practioners of Fa Luen Gong are those similar to plain torture. People would get whipped until they have bruises the size of huge tumors and sometimes in extreme cases, they'd take organs out of live people (yes live people!) in order to treat those that need them in the hospital. So basically these practioners are being treated like slaves. All because they are practicing a simple kind of meditation.
The Communist party of China started this trend about 7 years ago, when they had noticed a large number of people had taken up this meditation. As one of the rules of the Communist party, there can be no god other than the leaders of the party, and in China's case, Mao Zedong. Fa Luen Gong praises the idea of a potential god, or the creator of the meditation, which I can't remember his full name, but his last name is Li. I think he now resides in the U.S. Anyways, in a Socialist government any kind of threat to rule will be destroyed instantly, so the Chinese government has set its eyes on stopping this kind of meditation. Over the past 7 years or so, hundreds of thousands of Fa Luen Gong practioners have protested and risked their lives. My mom, an ex-communist party member and a Fa Luen Gong practioner has already withdrawn her party membership, and according to her over 2 million have removed themselves from the party also.
Now she maybe biased, but she brought up the point today, that a huge movement like this can derail the Chinese communist party. However, I obviously disagreed saying, it's not as easy as saying, poof go away. As most of you know, the Tianmen square massacre of 1989 was the first attempt of uprising by the Chinese citizens, well that didn't turn out so well, but China's economy has been climbing ever since. Even if somehow this Fa Luen Gong movement along with outside influences can somehow weaken the Communist government and eventually take it out of power, there are many more consequences and troubles. One being, how are they gonna be put out of power? A civil war? A revolution? They're not just gonna give up, no one wants to rid the power controlling 1.5 billion people. I wouldn't be suprised if the communist government turned the military on its own people once again, like the 1989 massacre. Nevertheless, this time, if there will be a greater revolt, it wouldn't be thousands of soldiers firing Ak's, it might be missles. These Chinese leaders, don't want to give up their power, if they even do, their lives are at stake, keep that in mind! Second, if the party does fall, who takes over? Will there be a war on who takes over? Again, if any kind of military action does take place I'm sure the US and the UN will try to interfere. And lastly, I don't think the citizens of China will enjoy a civil war, right now they have enough freedom as is, just no freedom of speech or press and etc., but China will still develop economically.
The problems of Fa Luen Gong are the fault of both the communist party and the Fa Luen Gong practioners. The party started realizing a threat and responded, while Fa Luen Gong then started to revolt. So it's kind of a thing saying, "you can't control us." I'm not saying a new revolution is coming or anything, but this is something to really look at. I myself would love to see the communist party of China to fall on its face, but the thing is it's not gonna be a easy process. There will be many big bumps in the road and maybe war, so consider before you speak and read the whole thing to get some good info.
