Here is a guide on how to create nice backgrounds for sigs, avatars or PSPs. Note for this you will need Photoshop, and I am using CS2 version 9, but I'm sure old versions will work.
OK first create a new file by using File > New and use these settings, except the name and size doesn't matter, depends what you're making:
Now press d to restore default colours and g to select the gradient tool, then select Difference as the mode:
Now basically just go crazy on the canvas. Just click on it and drag:
After a while it will look something like this:
Now duplicate the layer (Layers > Duplicate layer) and leave it as whatever it calls it. Now select Filter > Distort > Wave...:
Now use these settings and maybe hit the Randomize button a couple of times:
Now change the mode to Lighten on the layers tab:
Now you should have something like this:
Now repeat this a couple of times, making sure you duplicate the background each time. You do not have to use Wave or Lighten, you can use whatever, on the next two layers I did I first did Filter > Distort > Twirl then selected Overlay in the Layers tab, then for the second I selected Filter > Distort > Zigzag and selected Exclusion in the Layers tab and got this:
Now right click on Background in the Layers tab and select Flatten Image:
Now press Ctrl + U to make Hue/Saturation pop up, click Colorize and fiddle with the settings until you find something you like:
Now using the settings above mine turned out like this:
Note you do not have to Flatten the image before using Hue/Saturation, if you don't though make sure you use Hue/Saturation on each Layer (except maybe the one with Lighten selected) then Flatten the image, which will make something like this:
As these backgrounds are not that nice (as I threw them together) here are some other results:
Now you may think these are all total bollox, but you can create really nice images with this, so please have a go. Also please suggest any ways I could improve this guide and please leave Feedback on it.
