Damn, this sucks. I saw him drive a rally out in the Canary Islands one year.
He was one of the best I've seen at it.
And he was one of the more "stable" big names in the sports/racing scene.
Good family man, no drama with the press, and all the while everyone knew who he was and respected him. That's damn hard to do in these times.
Hell, his brother is also a rally driver. Hope he carries on in the fine tradition.
For those in the US who don't follow it, McRae was to rally racing what Dale Earnhardt was to stock car racing.
I don't get it, his chopper appears to be one of the Bell JetRanger series and those things are usually both stable and easy to fly. Much better than the rinky-dink training R-22s or R-44s most folks here in the states can usually afford to keep up. Most private flight charter companies use these as well and they're seen and used in a ton of Hollywood flicks.
Hmmm....I'm sure he did his pre-flight what with two small children on-board so this must have been severe and sudden mechanical failure or he hit a really bad patch of bad weather or micro-burst. I do know the wind picks up quickly around there.
