Ok I got a DVD for Christmas *Shock Horror I dunno what one is either* and in the bonus features there were some songs that weren't featured in the movie or on the soundtrack. So I ripped them off into MP3 files and thought I would share them with a community which might appreciate them and someone brought up the fact they are not legal. I checked the US copyright laws which seem to govern the internet and it said:
In the case of sound recordings*, to perform the work publicly by means of a digital audio transmission
*Note: Sound recordings are defined in the law as “works that result from the fixation of a series of musical, spoken, or other sounds, but not including the sounds accompanying a motion picture or other audiovisual work.” Common examples include recordings of music, drama, or lectures.
There is nothing about distributing them however one thing that has got me thinking is that if you distrubute somethign which makes the company loose revenue. The fact that New line cinema and partners didn't release these 2 songs as the soundtrack means they aren't loosing revenue and most people who want these songs have the DVD they just don't know how to get the song off.
So anyway I was wondering is it illegal or not
