Yeah, I can't believe this damn thing gave out a month after the warranty expired.

I think it's written into the firmware on all modern electricals. My mums laptop died 3 days after the warranty expired, and acer said "tough ****, buy a new one".

I think I'll play it safe with my PS3 and call up Sony saying it stopped reading discs before the warranty expires just to get it replaced (as that's what Sony Europe do, they replace your console and then take your dead one away).
