Aren't you Greek ?

Gone for a day.
"Green" technologies are often more expensive/pollute more. I actually did a substantial amount of research on this subject. The only one that really is the best is Nuclear, which also has the worst products coming out of it.
Hydrogen Cell - How'd you like a bomb driving around? One of those bad boys could blow up a block and more. More expensive than gas.
Hydroelectric - VERY place-specific, and destroys the ecosystems. More expensive than gas.
Windmills - Cost a ridiculous amount of money and need to be replaced pretty often; aren't efficient
Biomass - Gives off..what was it..like 5x more CO2, in addition to causing mucho acid rain. I actually wore a shirt to my debate saying "Biomass kills babies". Also costs more than gas
Nuclear - Most efficient, but has the worst by-products, as soon as we could get proper disposal of nuclear waste then I would probably bet they would use that more often.
Oil - Plentiful and cheap(in comparison to others) for now.
Pardon if I left any out, but that's what I remember off the top of my head at 12 in the morning.
Nuclear energy efficiency has developed so much that there is about 1% of by product left over as there would have been around 20-50 years ago (not too sure).
Apparently you can work there for a good 20-25 years now with no problems. Nuclear is the way the country will have to go at some stage.
And oil will not be plentiful for long.
Nuclear sounds great, but you guys seem to be forgetting the risks involved with that. If you begin industrializing nuclear energy further and begin to build nuclear facilities all over the US, there is bound to be a problem and if something were to go wrong, there's no going back. Another Chernobyl disaster would be catastrophic. There's a lot of risks involved that people often forget about, or try to ignore.
Yes, but the risks have lessened DRAMATICALLY sine Chernobyl.
You obviously didnt do enough research :p.
Its only more expensive because there is not enough support for it.
(BTW, im only referring to car fuel. For general electricity, nuclear seems to be the way to go.)
http://www.hydrogennow.org/Facts/Safety-1.htmZitat:
Safety:
Hydrogen is not commonly thought of as a safe fuel, this is in part due to the wide spread belief/myth that hydrogen is to blame for the Hindenburg disaster of 1937, but there is new evidence to discredit that theory. Brian, a NASA scientist at Cape Caneveral has discovered the real cause. “Neither the hydrogen in the hull nor a bomb was to blame, but a special fabric for the outer skin that, when ignited, burns like dry leaves” (DiChristina).
His suspicions of the Hindenburg fabric covering were raised when he learned that a cellulose nitrate (gun powder) dope with powdered aluminum (a fuel) might have been used on the Hindenburg. He was able to obtain a 60 year old piece of the fabric to test his hypothesis. Furthermore, a hydrogen flame is almost invisible in day light, it burns a light blue. We know from many eye witness accounts as well as actual photographs, that the flames were red and orange. This supports his theory that hydrogen was not the source of the flames (DiChristina).
He was able to prove his theory into fact, and the plaque in the Kennedy Space Center has been changed reading a more accurate portrayal of the history of the Hindenburg. It would appear that the Germans agree with his claim. German electrical engineer, Otto Beyersdorff, on 28 June 1937 wrote “The actual cause of the fire was the extreme easy flammability of the covering material brought about by discharges of an electrostatic nature” (DiChristina).
BMW has done extensive crash testing to prove the safety of its hydrogen vehicles, they tested their hydrogen tanks in a series of accident simulations that included collision, fire and tank ruptures. In all cases, the hydrogen cars fared better then conventional gasoline vehicles (Neil). This is due to the fact that when a hydrogen tank is ruptured the hydrogen quickly escapes harmlessly up into the atmosphere. Hydrogen also burns quickly, and must have the right ration of oxygen to hydrogen in order to be flammable, (a seven to one ration) pure hydrogen is not flammable. Therefore hydrogen is actually safer than gasoline.
Hydrogen > gasoline.
Again, only because its massively supported by the government.Zitat:
Oil - Plentiful and cheap(in comparison to others) for now.
bigtime oil companies provide millions of jobs, as well as revenue. Taking that away will dent the economy quite a bit. However, it needs to atleast be started, so that it can be gradual. The government seems intent on ignoring the fuel cell for as long as it can, which is what i hate.
Because so many cars run on it, you would have to do it slowly.
Yeah, there is a nuclear power plant like...eh...50 or so miles from my house, in that we live right next to a manmade lake that was originally meant to be a cooling bed for the power plant, but ended up a very nice lake. Energy out here, oh my gosh, is quite cheap and plentiful in comparison to when we lived in california, they charged us a ridiculous amount of money and our quota was about enough to do a load of laundry. I'm pretty sure if we found a way to dump the nuclear stuff in space without having it come back at us we could and would.
Whoa..Store things in other planets. That's F'ing brilliant! Why have they not thought of this yet?
why are we talking about planets when we have a 100,000 degree nuclear-fueled incinerator handy?
*cough* the sun *cough*
McCain's only hope right now at winning the election is Joe the Plumber...
... Oh wait I forgot he is neither a Plumber or a Joe.
I think I'm going to go to the Obama speech/rally/event this week down in Miami. It could be interesting. I wonder what kind of crowd he'll get. Miami is mostly Cubans who are mostly Republican. It could get interesting. I hope it's worth the trip.
LOL, oh man, that's funny. Yes I know it. That was left over in my brain from writing O'Reilly's name in the other thread. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll fix it. LOL.
Anyone else catching this C. Powell interview on MSNBC in which he is endorsing B. Obama for president? It is a replay of Meet the Press. I missed it this morning, watched football and did yard work all day. I'm surprised nobody posted this here.
That has got to hurt McCain.
I heard about it
I spent most of my day today away from the apartment so I didn't hear about it. Not really surprised at his choice, but I'm mildly surprised he made it public.
btw, you can watch the Powell endorsement online here.
