Default All Things Political

This thread is for the civilized discussion of all things relating to politics... the war in Iraq, the current state of things, various political issues, etc.

Keep all election discussion to the "Barack Obama or John McCain" thread, and once the election is over it will be merged into this thread.

As aforementioned, please keep discussion civilized. Try to remember:
1) People are entitled to their opinion
2) Avoid Ad Hominem remarks.
3) War is a hard subject to talk about for some people

If the discussion gets too heated or resorts to any sort of name calling, thread bans will be handed out to those deserving, and the thread might be closed.

Discuss.

There's no point in voting, unless we rid ourselves of the electoral college. There's no need for it at all.

Last time I checked, our constitution names us a republic with a representative government, not a democracy... but yes, I agree.

The electoral college is "representative" of the people, so if everybody stops voting, that can change how the electoral college represent the people and actually change who wins an election, although I believe there is no reason to not use the right to vote unless you are someone who doesn't care or doesn't see a difference between the two candidates. I support the abolishment of the electoral college, but I will still vote when I can and only when I am educated about the election at hand because I will not vote simply based on names or party.

If we pull out of Iraq, the terrorists more than likely will overthrow the weak government we have thus far put into place and someone potentially worse could come in. Other than that, there are larger threats like Iran.

i need to start convincing republicans
that they don't need to vote in texas
because the republican candidate is
guaranteed to win here

(because he is)

maybe they stop voting so my vote counts
