No I just reformatted.

a partition is the only thing i can think of

or its an error, windows told me one time that my 1 gig memory stick contained 200 gb of files.

so no partition, but a fresh install. can you access your BIOS? if so check the details of the hdd, make sure its the right details, ie size and prolly will tell you of partitions of the drive in some makes of CMOS. also check your plug and play is enabled, it might just be a bad communication. otherwise, i really dont know what else to do.
