I think God exists but religions shouldn't really exist. I look at theories like the Big Bang and String Theory and the famous Comsmological arguement comes into play. Who started the Big bang? Who made those strings (or membranes).
Let's say you ignore those theories and look at the Steady State theory, the universe has always existed. Let's take a look at what does exist: protons, neutrons, electrons, quarks. Why is there a concept of charge? Why are there only 2 types of charge? I studied physics very briefly and found that there are a range of subatomic particles, but WHY do they exist? What determined that there is 6 types of quarks. If you believe in the steady state theory then you can't say that they were determined, so that's why I don't believe in it.
So I believe in God, but why not religion? Many religions say that prayer should be a part of your life, but if there is a God, why does God need your prayers? Why would God want to have you pray? If God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnibenevolent then God will not be limited by human emotions such as 'want' and 'need'. If God isn't any one of those Omnis then that goes against the definition of what God is.
Praying won't make God happy, as God is not limited by human emotions. I read an interesting book which stated that perhaps there are many Gods, and these Gods all go to a school. One day the teacher God asked them to make a universe as a project, similar to how humans sometimes make ant farms. It just so happens that our God wasn't too good and there was suffering in this world. I don't particularly believe this, but all I'm saying is there has to be a motivation for God to create man, and
motivation is not a Godly quality.
We can't really understand the nature of God but then again I can't deny that God exists. I don't think the classical view of God is correct so I am an agnostic until I find a better explanation as to what God actually is. However I severely doubt that this explanation will come through a religion.
Anyway, I'm with him ^
