im glad people have diferent ways to think and diferent belives. otherwhise the world would be pretty boring.
Ever heard of creationists? He sounded like one so I posted that :P.Zitat:
Zitat von PSPHax0r9
They shouldn't even count as part of religion...:(Zitat:
Zitat von Chathurga
Not the people who believe that the Bible is 100% literal historical truth. Which is problematic when you realize that it says that the Earth is fixed in place and doesn't move. Among other minor details ;)Zitat:

Religion, they do. Intellectuals... not so much.Zitat:

We have not proven or disproven the existance of god through science... If you ask me, this universe is far too ordered to have happened all on it's own. Sure, it's possible that there is no god, but I wouldn't rule out a higher power. We still don't know everything about the universe. Also, if god exists outside of our universe, then scientific laws might not be the same as we experience them.Zitat:
Zitat von Nicky
God is really just a big theory.
A theory, yes, but one of philosophy, not of science. Which is exactly why science can't disprove God :p
lol..Zitat:

God exists, end of story.

Oh my, your logic has opened my eyes to Jesus!
You know, ~15% of the US population is either atheist or agnostic. The existence of god is not just some universal common knowledge.
Don't post in smart talk if you can't say anything smart.
Amen.Zitat:
Zitat von BreakDecks
i'm religious (ish) and even i agree with that...Zitat:
Zitat von BreakDecks
Actually, you are right. The existence of God is not just some universal common knowledge. But its common knowledge that there is a universal existence of God. Within Its Christian Religions. BTW I am a Catholic and believe strongly in how God created people.Zitat:
Zitat von BreakDecks
Have to agree with you.Zitat:
Zitat von anieldayS
This thread it pretty tense....
True, but that doesn't support ChIkEnAtEmYdOnUtS' claim at all.Zitat:
Zitat von anieldayS
I really wasn't supporting his claim at all (because I have never seen it). I was stating my own claim. But guys, thanks for actually understanding what I said rather than just posting "Whatt?"
Well, I don't see how all this could have been made without something that created it, ie: God.
It's just overwelming of so much stuff that would have to have happened naturally that I just don't believe it...
idk, it's just my opinion (and religion)
You talking about evolution? Well I think it's a natural thing for life to occur, nothing special. Just look at the microfossils they found on Mars.
Ehhhh.... what?Zitat:
Zitat von Tsubi
he said " Within Its Christian Religions."Zitat:
Zitat von Chathurga
It was the grammer and the full stop that lead to my confusion, it seemed like a contradictory sentence. Thanks for clearing that up.Zitat:
Zitat von Hooverphonic
"I don't understand it, so it must be God." Check.Zitat:
Zitat von ChIkEnAtEmYdOnUtS
Thing is, there are people who do understand it. Your lack of knowledge has no effect on reality.
Doesn't mean that there's no God, just that your argument is pretty poor.
Yeah. And the sad thing is, a lot of people consider polytheisim to be primative and almost ridicule the beliefs of ancient cultures such as Egyption when they had a god to explain everything they didn't understand. Yet, today, we still do it.Zitat:
Zitat von FreePlay
Polytheistic religions tend to do better in the modern world if their gods handle non-tangible things or broad categories of things, like "war" or "destruction" or "love."
Yeah, thats really the way I look at the whole concept of god. I think of it as more of a representation of ideas rather than an explanation for everything known and unknown.Zitat:
Zitat von FreePlay
Why is Scientology ridiculed, whilst Christianity has influence in society? Neither have facts, Christianity just started when we didn't know what the hell was going on (why does it rain, why did a frost kill all my crops etc.). And yet even with evidence and explanation people still 'believe'.
Makes a lot of sense....

You can't explain away religion. And saying that Christianity has no facts is just ignorant. There are events recorded in the Bible that actually happened. No, I'm not talking about the Garden of Eden, the flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, etc. I'm talking about wars, the fall of empires, kings, etc. They happened. They're facts.Zitat:
Zitat von Hugh
Science does not negate religion. The two can and do coexist quite happily.
As for Scientology... Don't even get me started.
Scientology was written by a second-rate science fiction author while he was stoned out of his mind - literally. He spent several days popping pills and writing whatever came to mind. It's a religion based on the idea that our bodies are infested with the clustered souls of aliens who were killed when the evil galactic emperor Xenu blew up hydrogen bombs in the hearts of volcanoes all around the Earth, quadrillions of years ago (i.e. before the universe existed). They say that psychiatrists are evil and that the only way to solve mental problems is to get rid of the alien souls.
Christianity is founded upon the principle of universal love, acceptance, and peace, under the jurisdiction of a deity who cares deeply for every human being and desires that they get to know Him and that He gets to know them.OMG, obviously Kennedy and Lincoln are the same person!!!!!!Zitat:
Zitat von TheVoiceofEveryone
So did all those roman wars, and the greek wars, and the aztec wars, and the incan wars, they are all facts, and a good amount, if not a majority were about gods. Hell, the aztec empire fell because one man claimed to be a god, quatzelcoatl. Does that prove their religions were right?Zitat:
Zitat von FreePlay
His point was that Christianity had no facts to support it. My counterpoint was that there are, indeed, factual events recorded in the Bible, thus showing that there are SOME facts to support it empirically. I'm not saying it proves the Bible; I was just refuting his ignorant claim.
That isn't evidence of god. The bible may have facts in it that , but that wasn't my point.
That made no since at all....
This was your point. Nothing about "evidence of God," just saying that Christianity has no facts. I refuted that.Zitat:
Zitat von Hugh
And as for evidence of God, it has to be personal, since there's always someone who'll say it's not good enough. I've seen and experienced enough in my life to be convinced of God's existence. And no, I wasn't raised in a strict Christian home. I was taught to believe whatever I wanted, though my parents were Christians. My belief in God has come after experiencing various other forms of religion, all of which I found less satisfying.
I know you'll say that my beliefs aren't evidence. And that's fine. But I think that if the beliefs of billions of people worldwide aren't enough evidence for you, nothing will ever be.
God didn't create me my parents did. The people that God might have created all long since dead and gone. There let the truth be told.
That's irrelevant to the concept of a soul, which is created for each person.
Since when does the fact that most people believe something make it any more credible?Zitat:
Zitat von FreePlay
If few of you say that God exists...How can you probe it?And for those who say that God doesnt exists..How can you probe it?
in my opinion there are more evidence against a god then for a god.Zitat:
Zitat von sk0rpion
We can prove theories of evolution.Zitat:
Zitat von sk0rpion
It's been 15 years and still nobody has shown me any proof of some middle eastern guy with a beard who does magic tricks.
Oh and here's a little cartoon I found.

There are three options here.Zitat:
Zitat von Chathurga
1. Every single person who has ever had a religious experience is delusional, and you're right.
2. There's at least a kernel of truth behind some of their religious experiences, no matter how miniscule.
3. There's at least a kernel of truth behind all their religious experiences, no matter how miniscule.
Who knows why or how people were created. I don't believe in evolution, science, etc. I am a born-again christian. Although, to be honest, when thinking logically, religion seems to be an excuse for not being scared of death or what happens after death. Which, if you have any doubt, means that you believe that your life just ends. But who knows, god could have created people, but how would that make a difference to the way we live? In my opinion, I do believe that god created people. People are too sofisticated to have originated from an ape or a spark of electricty with the right elements around to start life. I do not believe in coincident. Everything happens for a reason, and I believe for somehting so complicated, a higher power must have been in control.
